Filming a story on Pandas in China for a science show. 6 hours hiking through the jungle, radio tracking the first captively bred Panda, released into the wild. Fully grown male, 80kg or so... Side of a bamboo covered mountain, raining, hot, very tired now...ranger says...'it's over here', as the rest of the team leap down a small cliff to where they thought the panda was... As I hear next to me in the bamboo a funny squeaking noise, and the panda waddles out of the undergrowth, wraps it's paws around my leg and gives me a cuddle! 'Over here i say' patting it on the head with one hand, holding my boom in the other and no way to reach my camera in my mixer bag! The others arrive, and filming ensues, not a single shot of me of course... The night before the start of shooting the producer could not be found!!!! Next morning we hear all is well! He was found in a local bar at 3 a.m. with arms around a transvestite and a 14 year old school girl.
