Jeff Wexler
I just saw this. Very sad. I never got to work with Mike Nichols but met him, of course, when Pop was shooting "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf". Mike made some truly great movies... he will be missed. soundmanjohn
He also made some of the funniest comedy records with Elaine May, most of which I have in my collection and which never fail to raise my spirits. 'Mother and Son' and 'Adultery' are two of my favourites. A sad loss, but an amazing legacy. old school
I'd be hard pressed to say which of Mr Nichols films were my favorites as they were all so good to me. "Who's Afraid..." will and has stood the test of time. Great play, great actors, shot in a style that complimented all in a daring way in B&W when it was not the norm for a film with actors like that. It never looses its power as time marches on. "The Graduate" is so of a time and place, (SoCal), when the baby boomers 1st came of age and rebelled against the establishments expectations for them. I believe I'm well in the minority when I say that "Catch 22" might be his best film. All in all it was an impressive ride. Well done Mr Nichols.
