chrisyking
I'm sure this must have been asked before, but what does everyone charge for working Christmas and Boxing day in the UK for freelance sound? Double? Triple?
Jon Gilbert
Not something I'd do now I'm married, but in the past I would have charged at least triple time, and a correspondingly high rate for any overtime.
studiomprd
CK: " what does everyone charge for working Christmas " whatever they can get... you may ask for whatever you want to... (non-union) and of course, it depends. Edited November 29, 2014 by studiomprd
Tom Visser
Being an atheist, I would conscientiously object to asking for an additional fee for working on Jesus's birthday, a birth that I don't personally attribute a higher meaning to. If given a bonus rate, as a gift, then I'll respect the traditions of your religious / commercial belief system. Since my significant other is Israeli by birth, she has no right to object to my working on a Christian religious holiday either.
AndyB
As a fellow atheist, Tom, I look at December 25th as a day to spend with family and do the whole eat, drink and be merry thing. Its nice to have a day that is set aside for that once a year. I would ask for a higher rate to work on that day, for the reason that it widely accepted that people spend that day at home with family. cmassey
My theory is ask for whatever works for you. Double, triple, whatever. If the client balks, stay home and enjoy whatever you do on Dec. 25. That said if it is a union job, I am pretty sure it is double time all day... studiomprd
I'm with TV on this one, as for some folks, including me, it is not a religious holiday. working In radio, I would do multiple shifts on Christmas Eve and/or day so that folks who really wanted to could have the day off. dolo72
Not something I'd do now I'm married, but in the past I would have charged at least triple time, and a correspondingly high rate for any overtime. Plus one - I would probably say double triple if it went into overtime. Lisala
