Applying for jobs via email

Hi all, so lately I've been applying to feature film jobs via email (I even sent an old school fax too!) and including a simple cover letter introducing myself, then my resume with contact info, most recent credits and an equipment list. I haven't received many replies yet. Other than the 'who you know' factor, is there anything else I might be doing to sweeten my applications? Or perhaps am I omitting something important? I'd love to get more replies or phone calls from my applications. Thanks for any help and I'd be happy to email you my typical application as an example. All the best, Kevin.

Kevin,

I can't tell you how many hundreds of emails I have sent with resumes attached (and faxes in the "old days"). I've tried different wording, shorter, longer, etc.  I still send out emails.  Have sent dozens since moving to the UK.

Although it is more common for me to get a response than it used to be, countless emails and faxes have gone unanswered. Think about how you found the email address, and how that is available to anyone else looking for work. You can imagine the UPMs and producers are inundated with emails, so expecting a response to them is unrealistic.

For what it's worth, I don't think I have ever received a day of work from an email I was sending to someone I didn't know. Can't think of a single one. It's a very depressing thought.

Robert
