NathanWBS
Hi All, I came across some news today that Sachtler will be absorbing Petrol bags. Here is a link to the Sachtler range http://www.sachtler.com/products/bags/audio-equipment/sound-bags/ They seem to be just rebranded with very minor changes but I'm curious, what are your opinions on rebranding of products? resonate
by just looking at the website, the obvious thing they left out is hardware compatibility lists, that exist on petrol website. Oh well. Let's hope the petrol people will stay inside the company.
NathanWBS
As far as I'm aware, Orca is Petrol or at least they are the people who created Petrol at though have nothing to do with the Petrol brand now. I know Vitec own many brands and I know that they have absorbed the Kata brand in to Manfrotto. I do wonder if they will be merging more brands under their flag. John Blankenship
I'm not sure it should really be termed a merger, as I believe they're both owned by Vitec. Definitely a rebranding. Though designed in Israel, Petrol bags are made in China (according to a Vitec rep).

Oh well. Let's hope the petrol people will stay inside the company. That ship has sailed. The founders (or 2 of them?) are the guys behind Orca. I have no concept of how big the design team is/was at Petrol, or if there were other founders, but that may be why you see a little legacy Petrol DNA in the Orca bags. Same guy at the drawing board. The designer has been at it for a long time (they started KATA before Petrol). It also may explain why Orca exists instead of those bags being the next generation of the Petrol line. Again, I have no idea beyond what I read here and learned at NAB or talking to other mixers.
soundtrane
Petrol bags are made in China (according to a Vitec rep). And so are iphones and a lot more. All depends on quality control - QC and initial demands for quality of product from the design company. unfortunately 'made in china' does not necessarily mean it's going to be bad quality... I made the comment as a simple clarification, since many people think they're made in Israel.
Qsoundaction
Had a chance to see the Orca line recently and they're pretty great: www.orcabags.com And from what I've heard, johnpaul215 is right. The old Petrol designers are the guys behind Orca.
Matthew Sonnenfeld
I kinda like the wireless receiver/transmitter bag though... http://www.sachtler.com/products/bags/audio-equipment/sound-bags/wireless-receiver-transmitter-bag/
Glen Deakin
I kinda like the wireless receiver/transmitter bag though... http://www.sachtler.com/products/bags/audio-equipment/sound-bags/wireless-receiver-transmitter-bag/ Petrol has had that bag for a long time. Yes its a nice handy case. I use mine to store all my np1 batteries. Fits them quite nicely.
chrisnewton
I have an older Kata bag for my 302, and it was made in Israel. Not anymore i guess.
