23.98 TC on the Canon XF 305 cameras, how to question

Recommended Posts

Hi Mixers, Does anyone know about Time Code settings shooting 24p on the Canon XF305 cameras?

This camera allegedly only accepts 29.97 TC, even while recording in other frame rates.

The camera's manual states: "When other functions (24p) the frames value in the time code runs from 0 to 23"  For other settings it runs from 0 to 29"

ok

I'd like my Audio TC frame rate to match the frame rate of the video files that end up in the editing room. So my plan is to cross jam the camera with a Lockit box set to 29.97ndf , but run my TC on the recorder at 23.98ndf

The mystery is that I don't really know what TC the resulting video files will ultimately have. I'm just guessing and the production has no clue either...in spite of repeated queries on this issue.

Lastly,  I'll get a hint, by recording a test file on the camera, then playing it back while importing the camera TC into my 788t, which will then show the frame rate of the received TC coming back from the camera...

or will that be 29.97 too?

cameras....

Thanks people, David

I'm working on a show with that little pos camera and a c300. The show's frame rate is 23.98.

I cross jam a box set to 29.97nd from my recorder at 23.98. This is the only way the 305 will accept timecode.

The editors have been praising the sync by timecode across all three unit's so I guess it's working (c300, 305, Zaxcom Maxx).

From what I understand with crossjammed timecode the tc address of all the devices will line up on the 0 frame.

I'd propose a workflow test though through post if I were you. That's what I did when I discovered how weird the 305 was.

That's exactely what I intended to do.  Thank you, your reply helps.

It'd great to do a workflow test, but it's not happening, as I can't get any answers back from the producer in NY about this.

The questions they have answered have been filtered through different people on the production staff, with totally misleading information. I just ended up being more confused.  Thanks again.
