noni
Hello, My apologize if this topic has been already on JWsound. I am planing to have with me two packs of four Li-polymer 9V 520mAh in to the plane, placed in my hand baggage. Also I will carry one Cantar X2 Li Ion 14,8V /62Wh, and one Lithium Ion XL-B2 7,4V / 4400mAh. Is this to much of Lithium batteries in one place, how to pack them, ... ? Any suggestion , previous experience, any thoughts. Thank you in advance Novica Jankov
johnpaul215
It depends on where you are flying. If I remember correctly, in the United States the TSA allows those types of 9 V to be packed in luggage if they are secure. There are specific guidance suggestions are online. I think their rules are considered guidelines, and a specific airline can technically be more strict if they want. If you were flying internationally, it can also be completely different, though some countries seem to follow the United States TSA recommendations. noni
Hey John Paul, I will travel from Belgrade, Serbia to Paris,France, and from there to Marrakech,Morocco. First is Serbian domestic airlines, and from Paris I am not sure yet. I guess that a lot of those U.S. rules apply also for E.U. I will have some kind of confirmation from Air Serbia , but I was just curious to know others experience. Thanks Noni
johnpaul215
Generally the rule seems to be how many grams of lithium are in a battery. That seems to be the way the rules are laid out by the TSA. I think that has to do with the idea being if one battery is shorted, how bad will it get. Relatively speaking, those 9 V don't have much in them. I think a spare battery for a little point and shoot camera has more lithium then those things. Freeheel
You are completely fine with those battery amounts and sizes. They must be hand carried in the cabin, and all electrical contacts need to be protected from short circuits. romolo
Here is a link to rules on Air France flights: http://www.airfrance.fr/FR/en/common/guidevoyageur/pratique/marchandises-reglementees-airfrance.htm And IATA recommendations: http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/dgr/Pages/dgr-guidance.aspx http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/dgr/Documents/passenger-lithium-battery.pdf I use to separately wrap spare batteries into shockproof envelopes and sealbags. And stuck them in my suitcase (with clothes) far from conductive objects. And put any liquid (shampoo etc) into tough sealed bags too! For small rechargeable batteries I use carrying cases ( http://www.storacell.net/ ) still in sealbags. So far, at any airport inspection I've been thru, they always validate it (Air France, Ryanair, Qatar airways, Air Asia...). Hope this helps you.
