Self made Lav-Bullet

Nice.

I've been making them for over a decade with fishing jigs connected to female versions of the mic connectors.

They come in phosphorescent dayglo which can be nice to find sometimes.

I live around saltwater fishing areas so these are everywhere.

YMMV

My thinking, metal gets cold

This is very true and was one of my biggest struggles for first few weeks this year with the lav bullet. We had many outdoor days in freezing temperatures. I resorted to pre-warming the bullet and the transmitters which are realy cold at first, too. I used heat packs for them, but it was a bit annoying to prepare everyday. Anyway, it worked and the actors appreciated the extra effort.

A wooden bullet certainly would have helped. Now I just need to find wooden transmitters somewhere

That wooden "bullet" is a great idea. I'm quite sure it won't give you much TSA trouble either.

I usually pre-warm them in my trousers' pockets.

Thank you for the heat pack idea. I'll try if it works if I just put one (reuseable) pack in my TX case. Would also warm the belts and rubber mounts.

  • 2 weeks later...

Nice builds all - I have tried a few different methods over time but I've struggled to get the necessary weight into them - one of the benefits of the SGS lav bullet is that it's really damn heavy for it's size!

Though my lighter DIY ones worked well enough I always wish they were heavier.  What are your experiences?

I installed a heating pad in one of the drawers of my follow cart. In cold weather, I'll place the packs, lav bullet, and leftover breakfast in the drawer to be heated to a nice comfortable temp. The actors (victims) have commented that this is a much appreciated courtesy.
