pinkywinkieOZ
I just learned that the nomad touch will require the nomad's serial port to connect. I'm currently using an FP8 - which hooks in to my nomad's serial port. I'd love to get a nomad touch once it's out, but does this mean that I can't use my FP8 at the same time as the touch? MRWsound
Hi PinkywinkieOZ, You won't be able to use the Touch and the FP8 at the same time. There is the future possibility of a Serial "hub" similar to what will be found in the Oasis.
Wandering Ear
I was under the impression the touch connects through the USB port, not the serial port, so you will be able to use it with a fp8
RadoStefanov
it connects through serial port.
pindrop
it connects through serial port. To the serial port via a USB style connector in the Nomad on one end, and to a USB port on the tablet on the other end yes? Hence why it's good to have a,very hard to come by, small (7" or 8") tablet with two USB ports, one for the data, and one for simultaneous charging yes? ramallo
I was in a thinking of buy a FP8, but I stopped it awaiting news (Such as a FP8 with hub)
pindrop
Will a hub be released at the same time as Touch or at a later date?
DodoHu
It's me nagging again with my old dream: Will we see an updated TRX742 with TC/monitor out this year? Still resisting to buy myself the TRX742 as it is, as I really, really want that plug. It would make the greatest sound solution for small cameras like dslrs ever! Glen Deakin
I have a question regarding the 742 transmitter and an ERX receiver. When using the eRx to monitor the 742 transmitter what is the usual range people can get off that I know zaxcoms website says less than 20 feet but I was just wondering what realistic real world experience is. Nate C
Glen from my tests in my home I was getting about 6-10 feet before i was getting dropouts. Tried it in different rooms and sometimes I could get a little more, but not much. I only tested with one frequency, so not an overly thorough test. Glen Deakin
Thanks. My idea is to use it for b-roll on the same frequency as my link to camera so I can just run around with the boom and not the full setup. Really I just want to be able to monitor while I'm sending the wireless to camera. Yes I would be turning my bag wireless link off when doing b-roll Thanks. Nate C
That should work fine. Manually hit record on the 742 and you've got a back up. I tested it to use as a small recorder to collect atmos's while on holidays this week in the country. Alas I forgot to pack it.
Glen Deakin
I'm also thinking to use for a ms setup with my cinela pianissimo. I'm guessing monitoring is only going to be the mid microphone.
Abe Dolinger
Slightly off topic, I've had very good luck lately with the frequency 2424 for Zaxnet. Most routers broadcast on channels 1, 6, or 11, and since 2.4Ghz broadcast works across multiple channels, 2424 and 2450 are most likely to be clean from nearby wifi. Wifi channel graph for explanation: Great tip Abe! I've been on 2464 as a default. No real logic to it except to keep on even numbers. There was word from Zax a while back that even numbered 2.4 freqs were yielding slightly better performance. I'll try the 2424 and see how it goes. j

One thing to be aware is you can not connect the 742 directly in most microphones. get a short boom and put it on the bottom Edited August 21, 2015 by RadoStefanov

Wandering Ear
I use my 742 occasionally with a schoeps ms setup and only a short xlr5 to 2x xlr3 cable. Works great and very compact. I think the erx monitoring is a sum of both mics, but I could be wrong about that, it's been a few months since I last used it this way. Glen Deakin
yes there is only 1 meter? Is it the same as on the qrx? Or is it different? Do you choose which channel you want to see on the side meter?
Jack Norflus
It is a bank of 3 leds - same ones that are in the qrx.
