Matthias Richter
could you guys with a Nomad 12 do me a favour and check your Nomad for a noise that my brand new N12 got? Switch on the Nomad, have your faders down (doesn´t matter if there is any source connected) and listen to the Nomad itself with headphones volume all the way up. I´ve got a ticking noise every 2 seconds. This noise get´s recorded and will be on the tracks. I have checked the recordings on my laptop - it´s there. I even got a replacement N12 from Zaxcom - same ticking. Thanks for helping and listening on your N12 in advance. Matthias
pindrop
That'll be the countdown timer to your next big Zaxcom expenditure. There'll be a helpful reminder of all the great gear you could be using, but haven't connected yet, on the screen when it's ready, warning you you're wandering under equipped in the desert, you'll need to get to an Oasis. Sorry!
Michael Miramontes
Is it happening when phantom power is on? I just sent mine in for the same type of sound that happens when phantom power is on. Apparently it's a known issue and would require sending the unit in for repair. Matthias Richter
48V on or off makes no difference here. Testing at the moment and have found out that it seems to be RET4. If I listen to RET4 in the headphone matrix only I´ve got the ticking. All other inputs are good. When RET4 routed to a card track I´ve got the ticking when listening to that track too. Seems input #10 (RETurn #4) is the problem. Please have a listen! Matthias
Jack Norflus
How are you powering it? Sound like a possible ground loop. Try disconnecting the unit and running it on internal power.
Matthias Richter
just the Nomad on a Li-Ion NP1 battery as external source. Kortwich´s technician checked the replacement unit: same thing. RET4 causes the ticking. Actually that´s where it will be audible. Don´t know what causes the ticking really. resonate
that does not sound good. What do Zaxcom USA say about this?
Matthias Richter
not too much I´m afraid. Busy with NAB I guess.
Matthias Richter
checked a 3rd Nomad 12. Same ticking. Seems to be on all machines but hopefully won´t be a real world issue.
jason porter
If it is any help, my Nomad Lite is absolutely silent.

bendybones
RET4 causes the ticking. Actually that´s where it will be audible. Don´t know what causes the ticking really. Ive always had s ticking on my returns. Had two units. Don't remember if it was on the first unit as well. On this newer unit I have replaced pretty much all the components at one time or another for various reasons. At least once. Ticking still there. So I only use the returns for camera monitoring and loud consistent stuff.
James Arnold
I'll have to check mine. I've never used returns 3 & 4.
bendybones
I'll have to check mine. I've never used returns 3 & 4. Mine varies, it is on any and sometimes all of the returns 1-4. In different amounts.
James Arnold
Mine varies, it is on any and sometimes all of the returns 1-4. In different amounts. I use 1 & 2 all the time as camera returns. Never heard anything nastier than whatever the camera was outputting.

Christian Spaeth
Hi Matthias. I just checked my 12 and yes, the tick is on RET4. I think I have never used that input so, crazy nobody ever found out about this. Zax, you've got work to do!

RadoStefanov
for some reason I have a tendency to find this kind of "issues" ... And it is always with Zaxcom... Thanks for the good work Matthias
Matthias Richter
And it is always with Zaxcom... If you say so ... May I kindly remind all QRX200 users to help me with my other "issue":
max
It's on mine as well. RET4 only, it isn't consistently timed, but about 1 or 2 random clicks per second. Haven't noticed when I used it with any input in the past, but sure is strange.

Matthias Richter
Howy said that the ticking goes off when something is plugged into the RET4. I´m shooting at the moment and didn´t have the time yet to test it.
Christian Spaeth
That's good news! Will test that.
