Mack
Completely not sound related..... Am planning on taking a weeks vacation with my family to Quebec City and was wondering if any of my Canadian friends/colleagues had any "must see" suggestions? We will be camping for a week in the Parc de Jacques Cartier with day trips to see the sights and sounds. Sometimes the best places to see are not in the guide books. While I will love seeing the city and the popular places, I am also one to go off the beaten path a bit to see something unique. Thanks! Philip Perkins
My family spent a week in Quebec when my kids were about 11 and 6, and they had a great time. Foreign enough to be interesting and familiar enough to not be scary. They loved the old parts of Quebec City, particularly. p
sarcanon
If you can swing a stay at the Le Château Frontenac, you absolutely should. Have a drink or a meal there, at the very least. One of the five most enjoyable hotel stays I've ever experienced in my life.
Boomboom
If you're planning your trip during the ''Festival d'Été de Québec'' (Québec Summer Fest / july 9-19th) plan your hotel in advance ! the Stones are the ''big guests'' this summer, btw http://www.infofestival.com/Home/
chrisnewton
Hi Mack. For something a little different, check out Wendake, it's now a suburb of Quebec City. It's a Wendat (Huron) community founded sometime in the 1600s. worth a little side trip for an afternoon. Nice restaurants on the main street. Wendake Lodge is a nice hotel with an interesting museum attached. Check with the tourist info folks in the city fpr info/directions. Boomboom
Yes indeed Chris, this hotel is great. A really good restaurant nearby: Sagamite. One of a kind and all the family will love it. And the best "tarte au sucre" in the Province ...
fieldmixer
I agree big time with Chris and boom boom. Visit Wendake and stay at the hotel if you can. 5 star at a VERY reasonable price. And the restaurant, one of the top in Canada. If anyone has the chance, killer place to stay for New Years romantic getaway. 12 minutes to downtown. ALSO, take the ferry across the river and back. Without the car. Great view of the city and a great little thing to do. Nice memory and photo ops. Enjoy! Quebec City is a gem. PLUS! The American dollar goes freaking FAR here right now. Dam bargain.

Boomboom
Here's a ''sum it up Sam'' of all that's been said and a little more that came to thought: MCQ, a museum out of ''standards'', usually children appreciate as much as parents: https://www.mcq.org/en/ The link to the Wendake hotel (Hotel de Nations) (rooms deco is so great there!) : http://tourismewendake.ca/hotel/ The restaurant neaby the hotel where you can have that famous pie (tartelette au sucre) and meats like deer, etc... (I put the Tripadvisor link since their website seems to be in french) This restaurant is a definite must if you're in Wendake (my favorite) (did I tell you about their tartelette au sucre?): http://www.sagamite.com/accueil.aspx http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g1498925-d1520880-Reviews-The_Sagamite-Wendake_Quebec.html#photos Could be a good idea to stop by Wendake on your way back or from your camping trip in Vallée de la Jacques Cartier, I mean ''road itinerary'' speaking; check it out on a map when you plan ;-) Also, if you're in that region and your children are like 6-10 years old, the Aquapark in Valcartier is a winner for those sweaty days (it's less of cultural part of the trip but might be appreciated by some of your family members, lol) : http://www.valcartier.com/en/waterpark/ The ferry, down Château Frontenac, where you can have a view (especially at magic hour of course) (CDN$3.50/person without car... peanuts) https://www.traversiers.com/en/our-ferries/traverse-quebec-levis/home/ There's so many things to do and depending of your chindren's age and when you go... here's an ''at large'' activities link for this summer: http://www.quoifaireaquebec.com/en Enjoy, Québec is a beautiful city. There's so many things to do and if you are there during the summer Fest, really, book your hotel in advance; people from around the world choose that moment to visit Québec since the Festival is, in my opinion, the best around in terms of programming. You could even rent an apartment in the old city; there's web sites for that, I don't have links but I know it's there somewhere. Sometimes these are splendid (200 years old rock walls in the rooms, modern kitchen and bathrooms, etc...) and not much more expensive than renting a hotel room.
