IOS problem- nothing to do with sound.

Just updated mine and had no problem. You may have to take it back to the Apple Store and have them look at it. Otherwise, do a full wipe and restore and it may go back to normal.

I've always, always had a passcode but I made it one that I could type very quickly. You figure with just 4 numeric characters, there aren't that many combinations, so eventually somebody could figure it out. (Though I'm told it'll lock out permanently after 3 or 4 tries.)

Recovered the bulk of the data-  luckily not a too ancient backup was available.  

But- the phone locked itself.  Not sure how it happened.  The user never once used that feature.  But recovery easily done  because of two things.  iCloud was used as backup   and "find my iphone" was activated.  

So even if you do not use the lock-  create a passcode incase the phone decides to turn it on.  At least you'll know what the passcode is.
