sinnlicht
Hi All, Any experiences with the Ambient QFL in terms of membranes? I have a line on a used one, but no third membrane (or other accessories) is included with it. Using this with a stacked m/s mkh 30 / 416 setup in rycote AE with a Connbox CB3. Thanks Richard
pindrop
I've used one for years, my one uses two membranes, one at the top one at the bottom. You used to be able to get stiff or soft versions but not sure you can any more. There was a problem with sourcing replacement membranes at one point but that seems to have been solved. The membranes seem to last a couple of years or so before needing replacement. They are very effective, but I'd guess that a 416 plus MKH30 would be at the upper limit of what it can cope with, I've used it with a Super CMIT and a CCM8 and that was at the upper limit but worked fine, but excercises those membranes a fair bit. They are in general very robust, I give mine heavy documentary use. It's fairly straightforward to replace the membranes. I used mine in addition to Rycote lyres and the QFL makes a big difference especially for the super sensitive side mic. That's all I can think of for now..... pindrop
That's quite alright, sorry I couldn't help.......:)
THSnodgrass
On a side note... I'd love to know more about the QFL and what type of tool it is. I tried to search for info on it and all I could find was an old B&H page that has no product details other than calling it a "suspension rig". In what type of situations do you put this puppy to use??
pindrop
I've used it in addition to Rycote lyres to further reduce any chance of handling noise with a mobile MS rig, where the side mic. is very susceptible to handling noise.
