dfisk
Hey Everyone! We are excited to announce some new products from Sound Guys Solutions. First is our TM1 tablet mount. This is designed to hold a small tablet in your audio bag. The top flips over so you camera can shoot video of the timecode on the screen. It's designed to work with the Nomad Touch and Movie Slate for the whole flip over purpose, but any small tablet can go on here. You just mount it with velcro. Magnets hold the top in place, and you just push the top of the tablet to flip it over on the hinge. We'll have a video shortly, but here's the info on our site. http://www.sound-guys.com/#TABLET MOUNTS Second, are our new Lav-Bullet/Lav-Rod adapters. If you have a Lectro Lav-Bullet or Lav-Rod but have lavs wired for other wireless systems these adapters will allow you to use your existing Lectro Lav-Bullet with a lav with a 3 pin lemo, threaded Sennheiser lav, or Lectro HM/MM lav. http://www.sound-guys.com/#LAV-BULLET%2FLAV-ROD_ADAPTERS These are all available right now. RadoStefanov
Here's a photo we took with it holding a small tablet in a Stingray running Nomad Touch. This is just... Not very smart... There I said it...
Jan McL
This is just... Not very smart... There I said it... No more coffee for you Rado.
pindrop
This is just... Not very smart... There I said it... Would be nice to see a photo of the tablet support from the back showing how it fixes. Also would be nice if Zaxcom could source right angle full size and mini USB for the cables, they're just so vulnerable?
Jeff Wexler
How surprising that Rado has "weighed" in on this... but "not smart"? It could very well be the ideal setup for many, not Rado of course (it obviously isn't his famous OneUnit), and again it is his personal opinion expressed as an undeniable declaration of fact. Now, that's something which isn't smart.
dfisk
This is just... Not very smart... There I said it... Don't derail my thread, Rado. You may not like this, but lots of people will. We've already sold out of our initial run of stock units, and it hasn't even been a week yet. We're making more as we speak. boomhead
Rado, there are lots of situations that mixers are working from a bag and not banging into the camera, the talent, the producer, etc. Like many of our tools it might not be applicable to your working environment but could be a great asset for others. Jeff Wexler
So, Rado, taking your suggestion that I stay out of this because I am not a "bag mixer", how about you taking a suggestion from me (with 46 years of experience in this industry): if you think that the use of this tablet in a bag as pictured could potentially be a problem for bag mixers on the run ("stepping"), then say just that --- by making that observation, as one of many who do their job out of a bag, this could be an important observation. But just declaring that the product "...is just... Not very smart..." is not useful. The picture does not depict someone wearing the bag, running and then falling down because of the tablet, so why should we let your comment condemn the product before even being put to (proper) use by your fellow bag mixers. RadoStefanov
Ok. Here is the useful detailed reasoning: I am a windows tablet user since 1998 "I have worked on the field with tablet" and in my opinion these USB ports will break. both of them. My other concern as I mentioned is seeing where I walk. I am very happy that a lot of people are buying it. That is fine. Different people different taste. Nothing wrong with me not being interested in this setup. The one thing that I like is people will have to buy windows tablets. And windows tablets are awesome. Jeff Wexler
Well, Rado, here we go again and this time it's MY personal opinion: if I were a bag mixer the one thing that would put me off would be the necessity of using a Windows tablet! To each his own, I guess, we'll watch and see how it all goes.
John Blankenship
... Nothing wrong with me not being interested in this setup. ,,, Rado sure shows a lot of interest in making a point of how disinterested he is. One gets the impression that there is a wide array of gigs that he has yet to be exposed to. I do fully equipped cart work, run-n-gun bag work, and a great many jobs in between and this will find a place in my universe, most notably, certain bag-cart types of gigs. Making the cables secure will be the result of some strategically placed Velcro.
boomhead
Back to the product; Does it only work with Windows tablets? Some mixers use iPads, will it work for them? (sarcasm intended.)
John Blankenship
It's Windows only.

John Blankenship
From the Sound Guys Solutions web site. The top can be flipped forward -- tilted to allow a camera to shoot the slate window. Magnets hold the flip portion into position as in the photo. The part you insert into the bag is a proper width to fit behind a standard receiver.

Jack Norflus
Also would be nice if Zaxcom could source right angle full size and mini USB for the cables, they're just so vulnerable? there are many sources where you can get inexpensive right angle adaptors. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=right+angle+usb&tag=hydsma-20&index=aps&hvadid=35856273862&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16913692082705639017&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=m&ref=pd_sl_6z0hs8v8kc_b

However as the Nomad touch cable is a specialised USB to Serial cable (with components built in) provided by Zaxcom as part of the Touch package (as I understand it), it would be nice to not have to immediately have to resort to an extension cable in an attempt to make the tablet USB connection less vulnerable to damage, ie. the Zaxcom special Touch cable came with a USB right angle already fitted. Might that be possible do you think? Nice tablet holder by the way, looks simple and very effective for the job to me. Can the new Nomad Stingray bag which also looks very nice accommodate the FP8?
