Joe Riggs
Any there any low end portable recorders, that are capable of naming files by scene and take #? never used them but I'm talking about gear like the H6, Tascam DR-680, rolad R-44. Richard Thomas
Roland R44 can do it and take will increment automatically. Not sure on others
Ze Frias
The H6 won't, but the new Zoom F8 will. It still has some quirky things about meta data, such as scene increment not working as expected, but you can indeed name scene and takes. Rick Reineke
"Any low end portable recorders, that are capable of naming files by scene and take #"- Not easily AFAIK. The Tascam 680 can have up to three re-callable user name presets but limits names to six prepended characters, and the top-panel access make it difficult and time-consuming to access, (and near impossible in a run n' gun bag). Though the newer firmware now makes it possible to reset the take numbers w/o re-initializing the entire machine. As José stated, the F8 looks better/easier, has front panel access and 'history' of folder/file names, but no cigar in it's current state, as far as I'm aware.I'm not familiar with other Zoom or the Roland R44 or 88 machines.. (without repeating myself)

soundtrane
I was hoping the new Sony PCM D100 would have this but no. However it is a superbly built and great sounding handheld recorder with 32GB internal memory.
Boomboom
Looks like the DR-701D is able to do something quite like what you ask. Look at the Reference Manual, which is more complete than the multi-language manual.
