old school
Sadly this winter has taken another great Cinematographer as Vilmos Zsigmondy has passed on. I was lucky to do a bunch of commercials and part of a film with Vilmos. Better yet I had many a great meal with him and his best buddy Laszlo. His life story is as amazing as one could have. His work speaks for itself. His voice was one of a kind. RIP Vilmos. I was lucky to know you. CrewC
Philip Perkins
Likewise, and RIP. I started my first job with him expecting him to be arrogant and dismissive of sound, and instead found him to be considerate and helpful in figuring out how to get our shots. These jobs were "just" commercials (not big movies) but I felt like he brought his "A" game anyhow, and was a great crew leader.
Jeff Wexler
I just heard of this, from Joanie Blum, he had been in ill health for awhile. I'm in shock --- first my father, then Vilmos...
Marc Wielage
Vilmos was a really energetic and positive person (on the handful of times I dealt with him on commercials). A terrific guy, very affable, had tons of stories about the 1970s and 1980s. Made absolutely stunning pictures, just jaw-droppingly gorgeous. He'll definitely be missed.
