rosa
Would a 60watt soldering Iron be ok to rewire a lav microphone? Specifically a Sanken COS11 Thanks, Rodrigo
LarryF
More importantly, you need a small tip. Use rosin core solder for electronics of 60 to 63 % tin. Kester and Alpha are excellent brands. Be careful of cheap stuff that lists 60% lead for plumbing. If this is your first time soldering, be warned that the Cos11 wires are a real pain even with experience. Best, Larry F

rosa
thanks, I am in Santiago, Chile right now and have a job in Key West, FL next week. Anybody know of someone delicate with a Soldering iron in either of those places? This is to get my UM400 lavs to work with SMQV.
Jim Gilchrist
Eric Toline is pretty handy that way and also runs the Ft. Lauderdale FL branch of Professional Sound Services, which is about 40 minutes by car from the Miami airport. But it's a haul from Key West, maybe 200 miles by car. In the Keys that ends up being a 4 hour drive.
John Blankenship
Without a fine tip and an expert hand, a sixty watt iron can be deadly to the delicate wires in a COS-11 cable. You also need to know how to deal with the silk serving -- and proper strain relief is a must. Rumor has it they have shipping services in Florida. Eric is your man.
