Wintergatan - Marble Machine (music instrument using 2000 marbles)

Recommended Posts

This post just for fun.   This art machine looks like linotype but works like a hurdy gurdy, very cool.

Ingenious kind of musical automata. Ton of work.  Steel balls from a pin ball machine? I wonder why he needs the headphones?

Guide track for sure, but also probably a mix of all the mics that are on there. I v imagine it's pretty hard to hear the bass for example over all the rattling and falling of marbles etc.

I actually just watched up on this myself. He has some pretty decent "how to" videos.

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uog48viZUbM

Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0Guq7vZb_E

After watching and seeing how impossible it is to hear the actual music while using the machine my bet is that the headphones are so he can listen to all his mics. Otherwise he'd have no clue if things were working.

that's it of course.  But does that mean a listener standing 15 or 20 feet away from the machine would hear the music well enough over the noise? I'll have to watch the how to video...
