Mike Mulcahy
Hi, i am am building a sound kit: I own a used SD442 and plan to run it into a multitrack rec (using the preamps, limiter etc on the 442 line in from the 442. any opinion as to an HP-S82 or f8 for reliability, price and function? thx, mike
Mike Mulcahy
Clarification - line out from the SD442 INTO the multitrack recorder
Philip Perkins
Both are good, what can you get a better deal on? F8 a lot easier in a bag, re size. Tascam can have the cool fader surface, F8 can use iDevice for this.
Rick Reineke
Is weight a factor? The Tascam is 'relatively' large and heavy, along with a 442 and a few or more receivers is more than I'd want to carry around.
Mike Mulcahy
Hi, thx for reply: $350 difference total - used Tascam, $1600 with porta brace - new f8 w/ tax, 1075 plus 175 porta brace, $1250 m
Mike Mulcahy
Hi, thx, yes - weight (including np or other batt) along with radio mics is a factor. m
Philip Perkins
If your work is mostly bag-based then prob F8, if you like the interface and ergonomics. You might find yourself using it w/o the 442--way lighter rig that way, esp if you are mostly recording wirelesses (so the pres don't matter). You could use the 442 on a cart rig with the recorder when you have to opportunity to work that way with boom ops, and can use those nice pres and limiters on wired mics. Mike Mulcahy
Hi Philip and Rick, Thanks much for the response and info. best, Mike
greyfoxx
F8 for bag work. The HSP82 is actually nice but big and the timecode generator in the F8 is much better. I wanna say the Tascam is 100ppm vs the F8's 0.2ppm which means the HSP82 really needs something external for timecode. As for weight the Tascam pushes 8 pounds versus the F8 which breaks 2 lbs. Add the 442 (4.5lbs) and your still under the HSP82 for weight. Lots of F8 users are pairing with a 442 or a 552.
Csaba Major
I use 4 direct out to F8 ch. 5-6-7-8. The stereo mix send to F8 ch. 1-2. if i need more chanels, i use F8 Ch. 3-4 and send to F8 sub out post fader mode, and atach to the 442 mix in. This is 6iso track with L-R mix recording. I assume it is for IFBs. Used with Audio-Technica M3R?
Csaba Major
Yes. The transmitter is is biger than Lectro ifb, but lightweight, and usable is two mono transmitter. If you setup the receiver to mono mode, and fix it the pan some side, you have two chanel of audio. My setup is:Left -Boom +slate micRight - mono mix The pan pot is fixed with gaffer tape, for director or script supervisor. My boom op is always changing the sides.I have 18pieces of receiver mixed type: M2 -M3.The M2-receivers are 5years old. Always on the ground, somethimes in the river. There is nothing problem with.I use a booster ampligier with the transmitter. This is a handmade 300-500mw antenna booster. Made in Hungarian Technical University. If you want i will send some picture. But this booster is dangerous for the receivers! Must use 1-2 meter distance from tmy lectro receivers. I use this just in cart. Csaba Major
No! The nano controll just for my laptop. ProTools. It was a musical. I think the ipad with Auria was just for some other plyback.
