Jay Rose
Somebody in theTrump Tower either started thinking about what the debate mic issue really was... or maybe the Donald himself reads JWSound: “It wasn’t that the mike didn’t work,” Mr. Trump said, during comments about the difficulties he had faced during the debate. The problem, he said, was that the people operating the soundboard had been “oscillating” as he spoke, changing the levels of his voice. -- NY Times, http://nyti.ms/2dDJ92X This actually is consistent with what we've been saying here, particularly if an automixer was involved (how would the device try to cope with all his loud interruptions, and how quickly could it react so there wouldn't be roller-coaster levels during Trump's lines following the interruption?)... ...and it even partially explains the 'sniffles', much more logically than blaming a defective mic. Tilt Down
Except that he sniffed all during the second debate too.
Christian Spaeth
yeah, I guess the coke dripped out of his nose into the mic, which must have somehow made it sound bad.

Somebody counted and said he sniffled more than 70 times in 90 minutes. My observation is that Trump had very poor training as a public speaker, because he's falling on bad habits like sniffling, bad mic placement, incoherent rambling, not getting to the point fast enough, and a lot of stumbling and fumbling. If you're going to run for office, get some good PR people to help you answer 100 different questions with sharp sound-bites that get the point across in :30 seconds or less. Don't be mealy-mouthed and meandering.
Jim Feeley
Ya, it's weird. Trump can be a good extemporaneous speaker. But he needs a bit of media training. The vibe I get, though, is that he thinks he has that all mastered and would refuse media training as a waste of time (something I see with some executives, but very few successful politicians...where those little bites present a different problem) And now Trump's in an arena where people pay way more attention to what he says. Good advice about interviews and winning streaks (a bit of NSFW language):
