Gerard-NYNY
yes, that's a tascam 388 on the left in the back no, this is not my home studio. this photo was taken through a storefront window in upper manhattan.
Philip Perkins
Interesting speakers. Also interesting that the 388 is off to the side. So what are they mixing on? The rack thing looks like an old Orban EQ. So...art direction, not a practical setup....
Gerard-NYNY
there was a mixing board closer to the window but for framing purposes i left it out. from what i can tell they use it as a reception and lounge area, the proprietor does more video editing than audio recording now and those facilities are in other rooms down a hallway. Philip Perkins
The transport of the 388 would be very unlikely to work by now....
Gerard-NYNY
i think so too. people are still at it with them though, i know a soundie in brooklyn who does music of his own as well as recording, mixing and mastering for other people and he says he uses the 388 often enough to keep it maintained and running. Mobilemike
There's a Digi 003 in the rack on the desk and some sort of Pro Tools HD hardware immediately below it - so yeah, looks like storage for old equipment rather than anything that's actually set up to use. Looks cool though! -Mike
Jay Rose
Anybody want to take a shot at naming everything in this picture?
Philip Perkins
Jay--we're old guys now, how about a higher rez picture?
Jay Rose
Unfortunately, my beat up Polaroid snapshot was digitized a long time ago. When I digitized it, 8 bit 22 kHz was considered hi res for audio... and I was probably behind the curve for pix. (2" lowband... wow!) OTOH, you can open just the forum image in another tab, and have your browser bump it up 400%. Still holds together well enough to identify the pots and pans.
