Derek H
https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/make-transcriber-files/ - $25 Mac or PC I do not work for VideoToolShed but Bouke, the developer, programmed this utility for me and I told him it could be useful to other sound mixers and they should put it up for sale to the public. Apparently it is now available! It's a fast and simple utility and has some nice features for us. You select the source folder for your BWFs (can manually or automatically detect frame rate), an output folder where you want the MP3s to go, check the boxes for which track or tracks you want included in the mono mix and hit create. It makes the mono mix for you so even if you only recorded isos you can still make a mono track for transcription. Does the conversion super quickly and makes nice and small MP3 files. I originally wanted this so that I didn't have to give up a CF or SD slot in a Sound Devices 6-series for MP3 recording. It's also handy for Zaxcom users if you don't have the MP3 option. PS.. the resulting MP3 should have TC info in the metadata just like sound devices does it..
Wandering Ear
Looks great. This will be a very useful tool.

The free app I made is more rudimentary, with basically no GUI and no options, just a batch converter. This app has mixing options, and a more complete interface. Also my app is Mac only. Philip Perkins
I run the VTS app shown above on every interview type job now (on a PC), for the same reasons Derek states (I want both recorder media on wav format as backup). After some tweaks it's worked quite well. If I could make one suggestion about it it would be to include a "busy" signal of some kind--a graphical indication that the app was processing audio. The app already shows a list of the files it has converted, but in antsy times @ wrap sometimes I have a brief moment of "did it start working yet?" before I see the first file come up on the list. Derek H
Yeah I originally asked him for a status bar or something during processing but he thought it worked so quickly it wasn't necessary.
hiro nakamura
iTune does the job, with manually putting stamped TC in artist or album section.
Philip Perkins
iTunes doesn't apply the TC metadata of a BWAV file to an MP3 convert file. I don't have time on location to manually enter TC start and length times for every file recorded in a shoot day: my clients are in a big hurry at the end of the day. MTF is ok, I'd like a status notification too.
