Curtis Boggs
Hello, New here to this board and came here trying to learn more about sound. I have some interviews to shoot, using my Red Epic-W with the I/O back, as boom mic and a Zoom H5. Yes I know the Zoom isn't not great equipment but good for quick interviews but it doesn't have timecode so I'll have to jam. I have a Tentacle sync and can't get the Red to "see" the timecode. Anyone here to help??? Ive set the camera to "external" for TC, have the proper cable from Tentacle Sync, but no luck.
Constantin
I have some interviews to shoot, using my Red Epic-W with the I/O back, as boom mic and a Zoom H5. Why are you using your Red as a boom mic? Sorry... bad joke. Yes I know the Zoom isn't not great equipment but good for quick interviews but it doesn't have timecode so I'll have to jam. What do you mean by that? I have a Tentacle sync and can't get the Red to "see" the timecode. Anyone here to help??? Ive set the camera to "external" for TC, have the proper cable from Tentacle Sync, but no luck. You'll have to tell us more about your procedure. Where does the Tentacle get its TC from? Are all framerates set correctly? ...
Philip Perkins
REDs can see Tentacle TC. It's just normal TC. The RED menus can be treacherous, TC issues with REDs usually turn out to be about finding the correct settings buried in their many menus. Constantin
Is the tentacle set to line level? Gesendet von meinem D6603 mit Tapatalk Yes, of course it is. I am pretty sure that all TC signals are line level, or close to it. This is only relevant if you record LTC, though. On the Tentacles you can set the output voltage to suit your needs
nickreich
I think Michael was suggesting to the OP that his particular Tentacle might have been set to output mic level LTC from previously being used on a DSLR, thus being too low for his RED to read. Oh sorry, yes you are probably right.
hiro nakamura
In addition, both devices need to be set to the same frame rate before jamming. As Red Epic 23.98fps, Tentacle set 23.98fps etc, etc .....

Which brings us back to my previous post: we need more info from the OP before we can give meaningful advice
jozzafunk
AFAIK Reds are fairly fussy about the TC voltage
