Matthew Manville
I've been curious about buying some new radio mics, how quickly will the 600 block become illegal? Would I be able to get at least a year or two out of the equipment or would I be lucky to get a few months?
ryanpeds
About 3 years from the end of the auction process.

John Blankenship
What Ryan said. The specified term for repacking channels, etc. is 39 months. It wouldn't surprise me if it takes longer than that before the sky is falling.
Philip Perkins
It may also be dependent on where you live/work. I'd guess the major markets will go first...
Carlos Maeda
It was my understanding that 39 months after end of auction is the timeframe before it becomes illegal to operate in, but that the telcos can start firing up and using their purchased spectrum well within then. John Blankenship
The TV stations need to be "repacked" before the telcos can use the freqs they're on. Typical for government's great ideas -- which, of course, work great in theory -- the reality may be more problematic due to a number of factors. abuck050
If you want to keep a personal eye on it I've actually been following the auction the best I can on the FCC Public Reporting System. I also just found an article that says that the "assigning phase" won't start until March 6th and is planned to go until March 30th.
John Blankenship
Reports are that the FCC's spectrum auction officially concluded yesterday: http://deadline.com/2017/03/fcc-broadcast-spectrum-auction-finally-over-1202055967/
