Philip Perkins
As I said--this is not a political thread. I just want to know what mic is now being used for speeches in Congress, as in this pic. Whatever this is had replaced the venerable dual SM57 rig I guess. Bootleg
Looks like the Shure VP64 to me.
daniel
Better for plosives and snuffles?
Matt Mayer
Interesting article on the change and the history of the podium mics. Strangely, the author never mentions the actual model. Shure SM87 or Beta87 perhaps? http://www.theverge.com/2017/1/25/14384774/trump-microphone-speech-long-neck-shure-sm57
Rick Reineke
AFAIK, 57s (w/ Shure wind screens and shock mounts) are still used by the 'White House Press Core' (since the LBJ admin), I saw The Donald, (Mr President, like it or not), using them yesterday or the day before on live TV . The WHPC does not handle all the presidential speeches and conferences, so different mics are common.

codyman
A comprehensive video on the inauguration's entire sound setup. Seriously, I've reached that point where I truly believe the internet has damn near everything you'd imagine (and then some).

sounddguy
During the Carter era it was three SM 57s provided by the White House AV team. One to house, one to the press feed box and one to the official White House recording package. As house mixer I had my direct line, a line back from the press mult box and a line from the official recorder guy. If I remember correctly there were only a few of the three mic holders that were made for the White House. The most fun is watching the White House seal go on and be pulled from the Goose. It travels much like the football.
