Laser Mic Positioning - Maybe Sound Transfer Through Laser Mic Soon To Come?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Found this mic with laser pointing feature kind of interesting: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StarLight

Got me wondering about actual long distance sound transfer via laser and saw this :

Perhaps feasible technology to someday just aim "laser mic" at sound source from any distance and pull in sound via an invisible beam that might also track an audio subject's movements, keeping on-axis ? Currently not good for the an actors' eyeballs or camera sensor though. Boom operators might then be called sound snipers :-) Maybe heat seeking mics?

And this : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_microphone

Cheers,

Dave

Laser Microphone is not some "new technologies", it already beeing used a lot, especially on some "secret services",. There's still problems that make Laser microphone not useable for consumers and audio professionals, like noise caused by day light or other light sources(which you have a lot on a film set) and unexpected reflections , strong wind etc..

there are some new "Laser Mic Capsules", one of my colleagues at the technical university vienna is doing their research on optical microphone, they already did some prototype years ago, but it's still not really convertalbe to a commercial product due to high production costs and some instability issue

Sennheiser made a innovational microphone with "Laser", it's not really a microphone which catch sound by laser, but it use laser on a very creative way to solve some problem. :-)

The Aston Starlight is the first ever laser targeting pencil microphone, allowing for recall of mic position in studio use, and incredibly quick and easy set up in live applications.

This is just a normal condensor microphone with a laser pointer, not a Laser-Membran Microphone.

A microphone causing a problem for an aircraft is the opposite of the usual relationship. Obviously not advocating this tho.

Covert people on the planet have been using a system by which you  aim a laser at a window and be able to hear people in the room.  I don't know how 'usable' it is but it does exist.
