Car Com

I have for many years been using a Car Com designed by David Ronne

The original Car Com was a co-design effort by David Ronne and me. Neither of us were pleased with the way car shots had been done in the past using walkie-talkies. We figured out what it needed to do and then David built 2 of them. This was probably around 1984. Later, David built a few more and also offered the design idea to Audio Services who declined on the project (and then built their own which never worked properly). Since then, David built the SetCom line of intercoms which are very good and also were made with many of the modules that could produce a new Car Com. Both Don Coufal and I have designed a new Car Com and jave asked David if he is interested in building some new ones. So far, we have not gone forward with this. I now use a system that I built up myself using off the shelf products from Sound Devices and Remote Audio headset w/boom mic. This is working fine but I would prefer to have a dedicated system built that has all the features we need.

I have been toying with the idea of building a system, based upon these products for some time now:

Now, this is only a start...., but we seem to thinking along the same lines.

I use a Lectro Mouse Amp and a push-to-talk mic.  A Shure line-driver in between.  There is virually no sound (even hiss) out of the speaker until the director pushes the button on the mic.  Works a charm.
