Dear friends,

As most of you know, our dear friend Bob Gravenor moved to Spain last year after being a sound mixer in Los Angeles for many years.  Bob has worked on many features since the 70's and on commericals for the last 15 or 20 years, which is where I had the good fortune to meet him.  He has also served as president of IATSE Local 695, which is the sound and video local, and was on the board of directors of CAS. As you all know, Bob is a kind man and loving friend.

Three weeks ago, Bob suffered massive liver failure and was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Valencia, Spain.  His son, Misha, quickly flew to Spain to be with him.  Bob was going in and out of a coma and was about 12 hours from dying. In an incredible stroke of luck, a donor was found and Bob was given a liver transplant. It was touch and go for the first 36 hours after the operation when it looked as if his body was rejecting the new liver.

However Bob rallied and is now beginning the long road to recovery, requiring at least 6 months of rehab and post op care.

His hospital bills are enormous and growing and unfortunately, his Motion Picture Health Insurance has lapsed. He is only 6 months away from being able to retire from Local 695 with full Health and Welfare benefits. But right now he is in dire need of money to pay his hospital bill.  Plus, he has just been discharged and now also has to pay for his life-saving anti-rejection medication, a twice-daily fistful of pills that he will be taking for the rest of his life.

Several years back when one of his mixer friends had to have unexpected heart surgery and lacked health insurance, Bob was the one who spearheaded a fund to help pay those medical expenses.

Now it's time to help Bob Gravenor.  I'm writing to ask if you'd consider contributing to a fund that's being organized to help pay Bob's health expenses.  It is Bob's intention to repay everyone who is able to contribute and he would greatly appreciate any contribution you might be able to make.  He is a generous and loving friend.  Plus he always makes us laugh!
