glinton Posted December 12, 2006 Report Share Posted December 12, 2006 Here's a quote from Zaxcom's description of the ZFR100: "Zaxcom's new system also features special software that eliminates the problem of flash memory burnout due to the continuous writing of the flash card directory as if it were a hard drive." Is this a real problem? Any other flash card users experience this? I'm exploring investing in one of the compact recorders and don't have any experience with them yet. cmgoodin Posted December 13, 2006 Report Share Posted December 13, 2006 Typical Flash memory Write Cycle life is about 100,000 times with today's wear-leveling controllers. So to burn out it would have to continually write and erase the same sector more than 100,000 times. If the buffer is continuously rolling in the Zaxcom mini recorders, it would mean that whatever length of time the flash would take to fill x 100,000 and after that length of time on it could suffer burn-out. you will probably loose the SDRam card or break it before that happens. ---Courtney Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
