John S.
Working with the Arri Alexa for the first time. Checking posts on the site it looks like everybody is running double system but has anybody relied on the camera's audio recording? I will run an SD 744 as well, but I know post on this one will automatically go for the camera sound. Any reports? Thanks, John
Eric Toline
Early reports say the Alexa audio is superb. Some even say equal to an SD 744t. My own short time with an Alexa convinced me that it's the best on camera audio that I've ever heard. Do your due diligence and you'll be fine. Philip Perkins
It sounds good. But no dynamics control, and no audio playback off the camera right now (picture playback yes, but no audio in current firmware). Not a lot of poop in its headphone amp.... phil p
Richard Ragon
Also working on my first film with the Alexa.. The production didn't care about running any audio to the camera. .. I noticed it has a 4 pin XLR jack as the input, and the DP didn't have any adapters. I'm assuming that this is a Stereo XLR. Should I start caring a x2 XLR to Stereo XLR adapter on my kit? -Richard

Michael Panfeld
I worked with one in December. Used a 744 only, no camera sound. Can tell you that syncing timecode using the standard SD lemo to lemo cable works just fine. (I add that because 3 months ago I called SD and they couldn't tell me). Cheers
Eric Toline
I have these available for connection to the Alexa. From top to bottom: 2xXLRF-3 to XLRM-5. Hirose 10 pin SD style breakaway to XLRM-5 w/HP return. Neutricon 8 pin breakaway to XLRM-5 w/HP return.
Audio Daddyo
Hey Eric, I made my own using right angle 5 pin and mini. Was wondering why you didn't use right angle. Andy
Eric Toline
Hey Eric, I made my own using right angle 5 pin and mini. Was wondering why you didn't use right angle. Andy These were made as prototypes. The new ones are all RA although I don't see a real advantage to going RA. Eric
Audio Daddyo
I would say the advantage is lower profile and it looks cooler. Andy
Eric Toline
I would say the advantage is lower profile and it looks cooler. Andy Won't a RA input connection slow the sound when it goes around the corner and then it's out of sync? ;-)) Eric
Audio Daddyo
You just need to lube the corners. Andy
