Solid Goldberger
Slick. Would be interested in seeing how OSX runs on it (I imagine the touchscreen would require some kind of extra software to work properly?). I have seen people install OSX on Asus's netbooks pretty flawlessly, so I would hope this wouldn't be too much of a stretch. Seems like maybe this is what the iPad 2 should have been. e. RadoStefanov
In my opinion you would loose the pressure sensitive stylus unless wacom have OSX drivers for a similar device. The multi touch will need a little more work but it will work. I made multi touch work on netbooks before. Did you watch the video? Slick. Solid Goldberger
Watched the video, didn't see a stylus (hope that a stylus is not necessary, that is not what I'm looking for these days). e.
RadoStefanov
Stylus is for more detailed work. I tried WAVELAB editing and the stylus is a pretty good edition. I do not see why you would not want to have a stylus. Wacom is the best manufacturer of professional tablets. Watched the video, didn't see a stylus (hope that a stylus is not necessary, that is not what I'm looking for these days). e.

Derek H
Nice work Rado, I'm sure everyone on set will think it's pretty cool... until they realize it's not an ipad2!!
RadoStefanov
IPAD2? Apart from the new Sound devices software for IPAD I do not understand what the purpose of the IPAD2 is other then a bigger smart phone. All apps that I need are a joke on the Ipad. This Asus is a REAL computer and you have to agree at least the running of WaveAgent must impress you. Today I split some 4ch multitracks in mono files because that is how the clients wanted it. Can you accomplish the same with the Ipad2? Even for regular use it kicks Ipads ass in everything but battery. The Asus is I5 with 4gb of ram. Nice work Rado, I'm sure everyone on set will think it's pretty cool... until they realize it's not an ipad2!!
RadoStefanov
If exactly the same device was made by apple with OSX this topic was going to have 100 "drooling" posts by now. I do not understand!?!?
Matt Mayer
Rado, Looks cool. You didn't mention price point... How does it dissipate heat?
RadoStefanov
Price is: $999 with 32gb SSD $1099 with 64gb SSD There is no Heat build up even in the case that kind of blocks the heat sinks output. It runs very cool and absolutely silent! Rado, Looks cool. You didn't mention price point... How does it dissipate heat?
RadoStefanov
This is the main reason I got it. Watching live TV and recorded TV in High Def from home and on the road. Also access to my home music videos and pictures from the road. Last year when I went back to europe I watched The Daily Show streaming from my home on an Asus netbook with OSX
Derek H
Rado, I wasn't trying to knock it! (Typing this on a linux machine right now!) I just mean that there is a lot of anti-PC attitudes among the film community and certain folks will only take a computer product seriously if it has that apple logo on it. Just sayin! RadoStefanov
I agree. (: And I was hated when I tried to explain on this forum that Apple computers are PCs that run an UNIX based OS. The response was shocking. But I do not want to turn this topic in to a full blown "Apple is not a PC" war. I post it for people who might be interested in running PRO TOOLS and other programs. But mainly mixers that use SD552 as a main recorder. I think constant backing up and transfers on a light device that fits in a Petrol bag is great. SDHC card reader and full file system support unlike the Ipad 1 2 3 or 4! Since I got this I do not see a difference between using my laptop and using the EEE tablet. I am using the same programs to accomplish the same tasks. Rado, I wasn't trying to knock it! (Typing this on a linux machine right now!) al mcguire
>And I was hated < rado, could this be a bit of an exaggeration or oversensitivity on your part ? I don't care if you use an abacus, as long as it the choice you make hopefully we all use the tools that work best for us and so it goes al " why can't we just get along " rodney king
RadoStefanov
Definitely Mac fans were over sensitive when I called apple a PC. But this topic is not about that. I am looking for somebody with the RME UC usb device. I am sure the asus ep121 will be able to record 18 channels without any problems.. >And I was hated < rado, could this be a bit of an exaggeration or oversensitivity on your part ? jon_tatooles
Straight from Apple's Style Guide: PC Avoid PC when you refer to Apple personal computers. Use personal computer or computer. It’s OK to use PC, Windows-based PC, or Windows PC to refer to non-Apple personal computers. "QuickTime is available for both Mac computers and Windows-based PCs. You can share Mac files with a PC on a wireless network."
RadoStefanov
Good one. Jon are you guys planing on making a USBPRE2 recording and file transfer app for Ipad? Seams impossible. Straight from Apple's Style Guide:
