efksound
Seems that Rode has come up with a new microphone for their NTG series. Comparisons are quite obvious It's 4mm longer and 40gr lighter than the MKH 816. The Mic still doesn't appear on Rode website, but seems that is for sale on some online stores http://www.hhb.co.uk/news.php?nid=
Christian Spaeth
I'd rather get a used 816 for that kind of money.
Iacopo Pineschi
I'd rather get a used 816 for that kind of money. Without even listening to the Rode?
berniebeaudry
Long guns are used on video trucks for pro sports production quite a bit. That might be a place they'd find a niche. Bernie
Steve Joachim
The new Sennheiser MKH8070 also fills the long shotgun void left by the MKH816 http://www.sennheiserusa.com/professional-shotgun-microphone-boom-mic-broadcast-sport-504241
rafaeldelauz
I recently bought a Sanken CS-2 and this mic feels like a long shotgun in short body. it reminds me the side rejection of MKH70, but in the body of MKH 416. It's pretty good.
Manel
I bought an 8070, and I'm loving it. AND the boomie is loving it too. Sweet rejection, super directional and balanced. And the price is good to... Rode will be rode...
johnpaul215
Glad to hear good things about the 8070. I have not heard much about them at all, and rarely have a need for a long rifle, but when you do need it, nothing else will do! I like my 8040, so I would give the 8070 a solid consideration. Spencer Moore
I'd be interested to see if Rode comes up with an affordable blimp for the mic. In my case that was a big issue when I purchased my used 815. I'm still not wowed with the way Rode has for lack of a better word 'knocked off' Sennheisers designs. TheAudioSynthesist
In my (limited) experience, Rode mics are very nice for their price. Nothing amazing or super fancy. No cool "character" of it's own. But just a solid performance mic that gives you more than adequate quality for broadcast. I like their mics but there are better sounding mics out there I'm sure. I wonder how the kmr 82i stands up to this NTG8...
soundslikejustin
The 82i would blow the NTG8 out of the water...
TheAudioSynthesist
Good. Cuz I have one.
ramallo
The 82i would blow the NTG8 out of the water... I'm not sure, the small brother (NTG3) is a very very good microphone (I prefer it to the 416), and the NTG8 have rf bias (Very important for outdoors). soundslikejustin
Yeah, RF bias is great for humidity etc. My response was based purely on sound. I own the NTG3 and the 81i beats it by a mile.
Karri
Opinions, opinions. I have an old 815T with nothing to attach it to a boom. I do have a Windcutter furry for it (you pull it straight on a foam screen), so I'm interested in the SM8 shock mount Rode has lined up for the NTG8. Seems like it has the same plastic screw as the Rode Blimp, but maybe it could get me by those occasions when I'd need the 815. At least until I can afford a Rycote setup or sinilar.
