" Does anyone have insight into potential viruses / infections with the iPad OS ? "

Oh, YES, but this is not particularly the site to be finding the good information that is readily available elsewhere...

A pretty short-sighted view, since more than a few have an iPad as part of their equipment packages.

Best regards,

Jim

" A pretty short-sighted view, "

well, maybe, but a lot of the folks here may still be in denial " the notion that ... Macs were impervious to this bad stuff,. " (was I the first to post and broach this?)

and thus this site does not, at least as of yet, have much accurate information on malware for any apple products, or for that matter any computer devices. Such information, and good advice is plentiful at other appropriate places on the Internet (try Google, or your favorite search engine, for heavens sake! Sheesh...really tough room.

"was I the first...? "

No.

"this site does not, at least as of yet, have much accurate information on malware for any apple products, or for that matter any computer devices"

And won't unless we post it. The first step is more posts like Mike Filosa's. You can't answer an unasked question.

"Sheesh...really tough room."

Yes it is. Our world is increasingly IT-centric. We need to get and stay ahead of the curve on these matters. That won't happen unless we share our knowledge and opinions. Calling for a Goole search "for heavens sake" doesn't cut it, nor will other stock answers.

Best regards,

Jim

Well, actually The next step is more posts like Mike Filosa's, as we have this thread someone started...

and actually all he did was ask for more information, information not currently available here, but readily available elsewhere. Malware is a major concern, and a massive and rapidly changing topic, best, and well served by specialists found elsewhere. I did mention there are about 50 new threats each month...

and now, Jim, for your informative response to Mike, and knowledgeable contribution... :-*

And that can't and won't happen when you try to enforce your personal standards regarding efficacy to each and every post here. I'm tempted to say something like "An empty drum makes the most noise" but that's far from the case as you are a bright guy with an engaging wit and tons of experience to share and it would be great for you to find a better way to share that information by actually answering questions rather than saying repeatedly that something's been posted previously, search the site, contact the manufacturer, this is beyond the purview of a production sound site, etc.

"and Jim now for your informative response to Mike, and knowledgeable contribution."

OK, Senator. If you jailbreak an iPad (or iPhone or Android phone/tablet), there is a pretty good chance you'll open the device to the possibility malware might infect the device. As it's a fairly small installed device set, at least to date and compared to other devices like the installed base of Intel computers on a Microsoft operating system, there is some added protection connecting via your cell provider. Read and understand what you agree to when installing an app on your device. Only install apps from the App Store (iPad/iPhone) or Market (Android devices) and read and understand the level of access you are ceding to your phone or tablet via the permissions you're giving.

At least that's what the security guy at NSA told me last August, and yes he is the security guy there.

Best regards,

Jim

<Apple Macs don't need a PDF reader. There is already 'Preview' built in that reads PDF and many other formats. >>

and does very little more than 'read'...

Well Vin, they were talking about the need to install Adobe READER and Foxit (a READER only) so my comment is valid. Do you have a problem with it?

Tjena Olle :)

It could be that the PDF you're trying to edit is locked.

Lock or unlock a PDF document or image in Preview

  • To lock a document, choose Lock from the pop-up menu next to the document name in the title bar.
  • To unlock the document, choose Unlock from the pop-up menu next to the document name in the title bar.

If you don’t see the pop-up menu, move the pointer next to the document name in the title bar, and then click the downward-facing arrow.
