Philip Perkins
Is anyone using the current Mini for sound editing work? When it is really cranking on a lot of tracks or video how loud does the fan get? Like a laptop working hard, or quieter? phil p
greg sextro
I've never noticed my mac mini (i'm guessing this is what you're referring to?) get loud. It does sit under my desk as opposed to on top. I think it's loudest when spinning a cd in the drive vs anything else. Actually, my FW drives make more noise. Philip Perkins
I had this idea that it was kind of like the guts of a laptop w/o a display and kbd, and I hear even powerful MBPs get noisy when playing video etc, is why I asked... phil p
greg sextro
I have a older macbook pro - and when the fan kicks on, I definitely hear it - I think the mini runs much cooler (the newer ones consume much less power), but I'll try loading up a heavy session on it and let you know. Because the external DC power making noise in the monitors.

No--I mean the internal fan speeds up and gets louder when the computer is working harder.... phil p

greg sextro
Sorry Phil, turns out the new interface I bought for the home rig isn't working with PT9...which is odd. I'll get my old interface hooked back up this weekend and let you know.
stacysound
I have a new Mini i7 processor. It is practically silent most of the time. If I feed it a 720p video to convert to Apple TV with HandBrake in 64bit, the fans will spin up, bust still not bad at all.
greg sextro
To follow up - yes, it spins up a bit, but no where near as loud as a laptop. I used to use my mini on a cart, it's generally that quiet.
