Dear JW Sound Group community,
First and foremost, thank you. This site meant the world to our Dad. He built it because he believed that knowledge should be shared, that the craft of production sound deserved a dedicated home, and that the people doing this work deserved a place to connect, ask questions, and learn from each other. It was never just a website to him. It was a community he was deeply proud of.
We want to assure everyone that jwsoundgroup.net will continue. Dad would have wanted it that way, and we intend to honor that. We are putting moderators in place to help maintain the site and keep it running as the resource it has always been. The forums, the knowledge base, the years of discussions and shared wisdom, all of it will remain available and active.
A Celebration of Life was held on March 7th, 2026. It was an extraordinary event. Speakers included Billy Crystal, Cameron Crowe, Tomlinson Holman (Audio Pioneer & Creator of THX), Andrew Davis, Crew Chamberlain, Gene Oppenheim, Brian McCarty, and a musical performance by Micah Nelson. We also honored his father Haskell Wexler, his wife Carol, our mother Tonya, and his boom operator and partner of 30 years, Don Coufal.
The stories told were funny, moving, and deeply personal. They painted a picture of someone who was not only technically brilliant and always ahead of the curve, but who genuinely cared about every person he worked with and every young mixer finding their way in the field. That generosity of spirit is exactly what this site represents.
We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Cinema Audio Society. The CAS has been a tremendous source of support through all of this, and we are deeply honored that they have created the inaugural Jeffrey S. Wexler Award for Advancement in Sound Technology in his name. That Dad's legacy will live on through an award recognizing the kind of innovation and dedication he embodied means more to our family than we can express.
Many of you knew Dad through this site alone, and yet the connections he made here were real and meaningful to him. He read the threads. He answered the questions. He cared about getting it right, and he cared that you did too.
We are grateful to this community for being part of his life and for carrying forward the standard of excellence he believed in.
With love and gratitude,
David & Vanessa Wexler
