Thanks Petersont. How did I miss this?! Should have known that Schoeps would come up with an elegant solution.

I have Schoeps CMC mics that I use for mono and AB Spaced stereo recording. For wind protection, including outdoors in a light breeze, I have two Cinela OSIX 2/Léonard balls with fur. I am considering two Cosi or two Pianissimo for outdoor use. Right now, I can afford one or the other, not both. I would much appreciate the views of people who have used these windshields. The question is whether I should go from the Léo to the Cosi or go straight from the Léo to the Pianissimo. Put differently, is there so much overlap between the Léo and the Cosi, and the Cosi and the Pianissimo, that it would be sound to bypass the Cosi. I’m skeptical of the fact that the Cosi has no fabric between the skeleton and the fur. I also don’t like the fact that the fur isn’t replaceable. I'm not concerned about the fact that the Pianissimo is physically larger and that the Cosi has the advantage of smaller size. For the time being, at least,I can live with that. The Pianissimo should give me better wind protection than the Cosi. The question is, at what sonic cost? From a sound perspective, is the Cosi notably better than a Pianissimo? I’m able to see these windshields, but not able to test them. There is very little in the way of independent videos about them. I’ve watched this Cinela video several times, but it hasn’t resolved the question for me:

Which wireless blocks to avoid (in the future)?
Tim Norris replied to Tilt Down's topic in Equipment
I have gone digital with the DSR which gives me A1-B1 in all 4 channels, plus 2 channels of 941 with an SRC. Previously I had three SRCs, A-1, B-1 and 941. What I have now is better... the DSR digital is better. I'm dreaming of a DSR-X that would allow for all frequencies usable in the US. If you buy the current (DSR) stuff rather than the old (SRC) stuff, it will be more current when you upgrade to better technology or features and possible bring you a better return. Cheers, Tim -

For DIY you need AX5FB 5 Pole Socket (Female) Plug.

Sorry i know you said you are bailing on C band but What about those freq’s that are in block 24/25 is that something lectro units support? It is only a small group @ 20mw if i am not mistaken but at least has saved me quite a bit being able to spread out

a little heat shrink and some tech flex and that can easily become 1 cable with a Y at either end...
-
Thanks for the photo! Schoeps MSTC 74 have one connector for which to use standard Y-cable. In fact, this Y cable is used by a number of stereo microphones! If you have more of them, you have a cable for several cases. Let me give an example: Shure vp88

I managed to get my hands on this setup. well nearly: this one is with the active cables and MK4 but similar enough to your suggestion with CMC 1L. It‘s almost as sleek as the MSTC and very solid, but obviously you have two cables dangling down rather than just one. I‘m not sure yet which I prefer… I wonder whether the two lemo cables could be „joined“ into a 5 pin XLR cable after 10 inches or so. Kind of the opposite to the splitter cable of the MSTC.

Which wireless blocks to avoid (in the future)?
Johnny Karlsson replied to Tilt Down's topic in Equipment
Nobody can say for sure 100% what may happen at some undetermined point in the future, but those bands you mentioned are of course the ones we can use in the US at this time. Which one of them would be best is depending on where you work. In a lot of areas in Los Angeles, it’s fair to say scans in B1 look busy, but you can always find a few usable frequencies. A1 looks somewhat better, but random things like EMT can show up out of nowhere and wipe you out, even when the scans looked clear 5 minutes ago. Having one block of clear freqs in 941 might of course better than having 3 congested blocks…. But again, who knows what might be best on any given day at any given location. So many variables possible, including other sound mixers nearby (or driving by). And again, who knows if that gets auctioned off at some point in the future….? So in conclusion - get one of each and you should be covered - at least for now hah! - Last week

So, apologies if this has been discussed recently, but I couldn't find it. I'm buying an SRc for a friend (no, really!) and need to know the skinny on what's going on at the FCC in terms of the future. What would you buy today? A1, B1 or 941? Committed to Lectro, only. Getting out of C1. The 941 maybe less traffic, but it's only one block! Discuss, please.

I was skeptical because there are so many versions of these quick connectors and quite a vast pricing range all the way up to $45 apiece at mouser claiming scientific tolerances… but I went for it and I ordered two of these from ebay. For 15 bucks total incl shipping it is worth to try a pair https://www.ebay.com/itm/266290876999?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20240315132637%26meid%3D9da9e3f9ea6f414abfa89b08fc65cbc4%26pid%3D102055%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dnone%26itm%3D266290876999%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2Mobile&_trksid=p4375194.c102055.m146925&_trkparms=parentrq%3A77a45a3818e0a24247dd5122fffff9c4|pageci%3A9795236f-eaf3-11ee-9ac7-06f0f82b2ea2|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage

Cleaning Canare Microphone cables - products and methods
PMC replied to PCMsoundie's topic in General Discussion
I am old enough to remember when the industry used Carbon Tet (carbon tetrachloride) to clean and degrease cables, read/write heads, circuit boards, even work surfaces, etc. Then there was the Władziu Valentino Liberace poisoning incident where use of Carbon Tet in his hotel room sent him to the hospital and he lobbied for its banning. Then the engineers I worked with started using liquid freon as a solvent for wiping down heads, lol.
