I have been trying out timestamp notes on my phone where i set timecode on my recorder manually matched to my phone clock, take notes via speak-to-text or typed throughout the day with a timestamp app, and transferring these notes manually at end of day to a sound report exported from my recorder. Manually is the problem. Curious if anyone else has a similar timestamp voice/type logging app suggestion? my timestamp app i tried creates .json files not super friendly to work with for this purpose and manually reading notes/times on screen to retype into sound reports I feel is not my best solution

December 1978 Recording Engineer / Producer was US the premiere magazine for recording engineers, there was no internet, there were few schools, Full Sail was still BeeJay Recording, and every issue was a treat was a treat boxto find in the mail. I picked this issue for my daughters birthday 41 years ago. This one has an interview with Geoff Emerick about how they did Sgt Pepper. The ad's are emotional for an analog dinosaur. I am Just wondering If other countries ask "vaccine pass or card" when contracting or before production starts. In Korea, some of the productions ask vaccine pass but not manies but need PCR test like 2 times a week. Another curiousity to Americans. Is it true? Vaccine exemptions with thses people? for example, Congress people 535 and their all aides. 12,000 All FDA & CDC workers. 6,000 All US Postal workers. 600,000 Chinese exchange students(a lot) All White House members and workers. 6,000 HHS 8,000 and so on. Is it true? Really curious. https://rumble.com/von1jb-41385863.html

Back story : Shooting a small little video series for my buddy last week with a DSLR and the Tentacle Sync Track E fitted with a Tram TR-50 for sound with a Sync E going into my audio port of the cam and using TC to sync in post. The first day of shooting my buddy didn't wear the Tentacle right away because he had some running around to do and it wasnt necessary to get audio so I just put the Tentacle pack on my rig and clipped the lav to the front of my rig for ambience. This is where this clicking sound was on the sound files. Can't figure out where this is coming from. This is a stand alone recorder and not wireless. There was nothing that could of made this sound on m…

Howdy folks! I am Trey from out in the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma. I joined the message board to meet other sound folks, as there are not many around my parts. Currently trying to build up my gear. Just researching my options and such. Hope that everyone is doing well! Trey

Can anyone make sense of the 'new' Sennheiser frequency finder. From what I see, it now only states regulatory info. I usually use an RF Explorer on site, but like to see TV channel/frequency signal strengths in a given area prior to arrival. The discontinued online finder was quick and easy. The Shure Frequency Finder shows TV channels/frequencies for a given location, but not the dB modulation, distance and other pertinent factors..

A producer that I hired me on 10+ commercial shoots called me today, and told me that they was told that they had some issues with the audio on the last shoot. So, first of all, let me tell you a little about the shoot. I was alone as a sound recordist as I always am and is usually expected here in the small country Im from. It was two talents and 8 clients that needed headphones. It was 4-5 different locations, and between the locations I had to gather all the headphones/HX-3 and the rest of te equipment. I was always last out and the last one to be ready as the camera dept was 3 people, and the lightcrew was several persons so they had the opertunity to travel ahead and…

I am just venting, I know some of your grizzled veterans have been through much worse. So, this weekend I was asked, as a favor, to do two 6-hour days shooting a short film with child actors. We are now into 2 10+ hour days, at night, outside, in Ohio in the October cold. Set is a corn field far from any buildings or lights. They brought in a generator to run the lights - the loudest generator I have ever heard. All dialog recorded so far sounds like actors are in front of a gas powered lawn mower. And the MKH 416 did some amazing phasing as the generator came in and out of axis. The camera crew was unfamiliar with their gear and took …

Hi all, I ordered some cables from a US-based cable maker in May, made the payment late May and have yet to get the cables. Searching his name here got me a hit whereby he is running a business with one of the more senior members here so I'm still holding on to a last shred of hope/giving him the benefit of the doubt. I have compiled a list of exchanges between us that I am holding on to (including proof of payment). I don't want to ruin someone's reputation if there is force majeure. From late May onwards, the gist was we had a lot of back and forth in the ensuing months basically of me asking him for updates. His last email to me (dated 17th of August) was to…

Hi, As i said on another topic, i'm still in the process of learning, and actually i got a real problem with sound report in general. I'm working on a documentary, and the director/cameraman is in a "real time" shooting style. The only thing he says is "cut", moving to another point of view and 2 seconds later is already recording. So i got a lot of files, but never got time to note anything about the shot (bad take, environmental noise...etc) Anyway german production company ask for those sound reports. Hell on earth 😅 My question is how do you manage your sound reports on the fly? Any app that can help, recording a note via…

Hi All, Not sure why there is an absence of discussion surrounding the current state of IATSE contract negotiations on this site. This seems very strange seeing what we all do for work. I know there are other forums ie FB, IG IA stories etc. but it seems like a huge hole given what it all means to many here. Is there some sort of dissuasion to this kind of discussion on JWS? Me? I personally think we need to show that we are willing to hold the line and get our various demands engaged and have most of them met to increase our quality of life. Sad to say but nothing will change without costing production more. Now it's not costing th…

I've been chatting with Bouke about adding a feature to the Make Transcriber Files app, he suggested we crowd source some additional input here: My Original Request: His Response: So anyone want to add any feedback to this? And since he's going to charge me for this – hopefully we can make it useful for more people... Thanks Peter

I know this may have been covered many times before; but is there a definitive source for the term MOS? "Mit Out Sound" isn't a german phrase and "minus optical track" doesn't make any sense.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum as a member, even though I've been following this community for quite some time now (so much knowledge! much appreciated btw :)) I've been wondering about this question (see title) for a while now and so far I didn't really find this topic somewhere. If this has already been discussed a lot of times and I'm just not finding the right threads then sorry for another post. For the last 5-6 years now I'm doing sound for picture but always as a student (still enrolled in a masters study). Over the last 2-3 years I got the chance to do more paid jobs and work as a freelancer but I wouldn't call that fully pro…

So, I am new folks to sound capture, processing, etc. I recently purchased a Deity connect 2.4 GHZ wireless transmitter / reciever kit to run sound thru to a Zoom F8n and out to my Dig SLR so sound track can be supplied to video in camera. How do you account for the 19ms delay that is created by the "wireless" method? Is it as simple as delaying the track in the computer? It use a Mac with Final Cut Pro.... Am I making any sense? Just want the lips to match the soundtrack... Jeff

I just tried to watch David Finchers - Mank. I immediateley noticed the artificial stereo reverbaration on the dialogue. But for my taste it´s way to much. In the first scene indoors the reverb doesn´t match to the size of the room neither to the materials inside. The next scene with a different room, the same. Way to large on the reverbaration side than the existing room. It bothered me so much, that I had to stop the movie. My brain suffered to match what I see and what I hear. I noticed this circumstance in other movies too. Does anybody of you had the same thoughts?

Hi First of all sorry if my english isn't perfect. I have had a couple of jobs with a child wearing "close to the body" t shirt. I can't find a good way to hide my cos11 on her. Either it shows through the t shirt, or it results in rustling noise. I have tried a lot of different concealers and tape. I have considered the hair but I find it hard to place a mic in her hair when it is pulled back in a pony tail. Any idea? Jesper

I answered an ad regarding "audio for low budget feature" and in my attempt to find out about the project was invited to meet with a man named Herb Lindsy at his office in Burbank on Magnolia blvd... This was after a telephone call from him inviting me to come and discuss the project. Herb and I sat down and we started talking about his project. While talking I gave him one of my Audio business cards. He had mentioned it was a low budget feature and that he was offering $100 "flat flee" for a 12 hour rate. 18 days of shooting. Herb did not seem to know much about sound or production for that matter and kept mentioning the need for a back up disc of the audio. I asked him…

I've been using P-touch clear labels(black print) to label my slate(Denecke TS-C) and today after the shoot when I was taking them off, one of them de-laminated. Meaning the top film with the print separated from the adhesive film layer, which remained on the slate(I've never seen this happen on a P-touch label that was on something for such a short time period: maybe 18 hours). And the adhesive layer is now essentially laminated to the slate, because that portion of the label is so extremely thin there is essentially no way to scrape it off. It's almost like super clear Scotch Tape, but only a fraction of the thickness. I tried window cleaner, Pancro and s…

I'm not a professional sound mixer but I know enough to be dangerous as the saying goes. I anticipate that many of you will not agree with my gear recommendations or other parts of my diatribe but this is my small part to try to elevate the art of location sound mixing in 2021. Feedback and comments are welcomed! https://www.hdvideopro.com/blog/a-location-sound-primer-for-camera-ops-videographers-and-dps/ Dan

Well, I'm guessing I was the first mixer on the planet to be Coronavirus vaccinated , and subsequently, I will probably be the first mixer on the planet to get their Pfizer Delta Variant booster shot. Who among you that was vaccinated would look to eventually get the Delta Variant booster shot? Why or why not? Thank you, Martin

I was just using my wireless lavs (sony uwp-d) and getting some cable noise. Mostly its because the minijack or the connector is failing. I replaced the unit, but I cannot replicate it. I can wiggle the connector and the antenna and nothing happens. The only reason I can see is, that maybe the connector wasnt screwed in properly, but I checked it on location. Any other idea?cable noise.wav
