I will be in Vancouver this week and I'm trying to fill up a couple of light days, anyone in production at the moment who fancies a visitor? It's always good to meet new people. Julian Howarth CAS.

My next movie starts on location in Greece. Specifically the island of Santorini. Does anyone have experience shooting there? I'm wondering if my wireless mic. frequencies (Block 26 / 668 mHz to 686 mHz) will work there. My comteks are PR-216's. Thanks, Michael Barosky

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/orchestra-united/4od#3134294 Here is a link to a documentary that I made last year. If you are into classical music you might be interested in watching it .On a technical note this was a huge job for me which took three days to rig but was well worth the trouble. Best John

I put up a little slide show that I made to honor the 40th Anniversary of "Medium Cool." Forty years ago! It still stands as an amazing achievement, making this movie in the midst of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, 1968. Not everyone knows that the movie was tightly scripted with fictional characters with one big plot opening: what is going to happen in Chicago during the convention. The police riot that ensued, tanks rolling down Michigan Avenue, Haskell being tear gassed while shooting the movie ("lookout Haskell, it's real"), none of this could have been predicted. Would anyone be willing to share an example of their deal memo or contract? I'm curious what the typical format might look like. Dylan

Why doesn't the editor work properly? This should be BOLD on my screen. Well, what do you know, it IS! You have to know to use the button at the end "A" to toggle the view. When toggled it goes from wysiwyg display to displaying the codes. Good to know.

HARLEY DAVIDSON FACES STIFF COMPETITION FROM JOHNSON MARINE WHO INTRODUCES A NEW LINE OF MOTORCYCLES At a press conference late Monday, the CEO of Johnson Marine, makers of Johnson outboard marine engines and other recreational equipment, unveiled a new line of heavyweight cruiser style motorcycles designed to compete head to head with industry leader Harley-Davidson. Peter Long, Johnson brands marketing manager said, "We have studied the market and determined that Harley, while highly successful, has narrowly missed the mark when targeting motorcycle buyers". Long added, "We at Johnson are convinced that our product hits the target dead center and promises to dra…

Hey guys, Was recently looking for new headphones and found a great website for A/B comparisons [source vs. headphones] They posted a video on what I consider a pretty intricate testing phase. Headphone Testing They also have a soundcloud website database of different headphones / monitors / microphones. I found it very useful narrowing down my selections. Sound Cloud Library Apologies if this is old hat - but it is kind of fun to see how the cans you are using stack up against the mastered tracks.

I'm a member of A.T.A.S. and as such receive quite a few DVDs each year that I watch and vote for in their respective categories. A couple of years ago I watched an episode of a British show called M.I.5. (Spooks in the U.K.) and was immensely impressed with it. Great stories, powerful acting and innovative directing and camera work. I'm guessing that "24" took at least a significant leaf out of their work book, having made judicious use of split screen editing and lots of hand-held cameras. The sound of this show is first rate, having an intense mix of dialogue, music and FX and I wondered if the production mixer was known to anyone in the forum, or even if he/she is a c…

I have a young colleague I found at the film school I lecture at. He was a natural boom operator! I used him for two dramas and everyone was impressed A TV series show here grabbed him and he has done 2 years of Fisher boom operating. Is there still a demand for that skill in the USA as his girlfriend is moving to LA? Cheers mike

I have just finished watching the film Joseph Andrews on YouTube. It was shot in Southern Britain during a very long, hot summer of 1976 and I was 3rd Man on the sound crew. Lady Booby (Anne-Margaret)'s final line was a reversion to her character's low origins (for the rest of the film she spoke in a curious mixture of bad posh English and faux-French) and for accuracy the director (Tony Richardson) insisted that this line be very authentic. The line was "What f***king next?" and who better to advise on the correct, Cockney way of pronouncing this than the electricians? For about half an hour the sparks clustered around Anne-Margaret coaching her on the correct rhythm, sl…
