Hi guys I was going to NAB this year, but got a big job and had to cancel. I have a booking at the Stratosphere Hotel in Vegas from the 5 to the 10 of april. I did the booking long ago and got it for almost half price. The total is $348 for all 5 days. I was going to cancel it but i thought if someone wants it I can pass it on and you get the saving. Let me know Diego http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/stratosphere-casino.en-gb.html?sid=0eda7e7b6a067c916d654f7dbbf6e7bd;dcid=2

The baseball won. My friend, local broadcaster Jon Bozeka, was calling a game today when the ball came straight at him. He backed up to avoid injury. The gear did not. $4k down the drain.

I was looking at some photos taken on set in the photo section and remembered that in Toronto, the camera union IATSE 667 has a rule forbidding all still cameras on a film set except those of the set photographer. Does any other camera union have such a ruling on union shoots?

I expect some people will be angry I am using this forum to voice a political opinion, and I am sorry for that, but I really feel that I cannot be silent about this issue. I saw people with their CHILDREN holding signs yesterday, and I feel I must act on my own in any way I can. Robert Sharman - THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN MOVED - (Society, Politics and the Planet)

Many of you may know Stan McClain who owns Filmtools. He recently sent out the Filmtools newsletter to his customers, urging them to vote NO on the new contract. I am posting the newsletter here since I think it is a well written piece, written from the heart in an effort to get the I.A. back on track to be a democratic and representative labor union. By Stan McClain Today is March 3rd and this memo is targeted to those of you who are affected by the IATSE negotiations. Bypass this if it does not pertain to you. Most of you have voted by now, so this may arrive to you a few days late. Filmtools has a privacy agreement with its customers, insuring that we will not s…

From CNN Money: http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/02/news/economy/passenger-security-fee/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 NEW YORK (CNNMoney) .....<Lots of non-pertinent information from the article>...... Doubling the passenger security fee for nonstop flights could raise about $13 billion over the next decade if it went into effect immediately, or $11 billion if it started in 2015, said Marc Goldwein, senior policy director at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. But that would only make up for some of the budget cuts that lawmakers are seeking to replace. That's why analysts expect that negotiators also may propose hikes in other user fees, as well …

I Worked with a multi-talented comedian/actor/cartoonist this week, and between setups he showed me one of his pieces published in the April 2019 issue of MAD Magazine, thought it was too good to not share with you all here. https://www.jasonchatfield.com/ for more of his stuff.

In responding to the thread Re: books etc. I came across this article that really articulates a lot of the irony I have felt in trying to deliver an optimal signal... knowing it might not be as "optimal" when released... http://proav.pubdyn.com/2007January/2007JanuarySoundInsight.htm this struck a chord with me. Hi All, wondering if anyone has any firsthand knowledge of shooting in Somaliland. Apparently it's much safer than the rest of Somalia, but I'm still gathering info before I make a commitment... And no, I don't care which Lectro Blocks will work in Hargeisa... More interested in general health, safety and security precautions on a shoot that will do its best to avoid dangerous situations. Thanks, Brent Calkin

Hi all, I've looked through previous posts and don't find anything current. Can anyone point me to current usable frequencies for Poland? I'm actually planning / hoping for a relatively simple boom / plants setup for a small drama, and no longer own any radio systems anyway BUT I'd rather we were prepared before I start to help my friend start preproduction ... As well as UHF, any info on VHF (if still applicable) would also be appreciated for monitoring/scratch tracks ... Dzjekuje in advance, Jez Adamson (I know - a funny name in Polish!)

There are plentiful, but I’m curious which filmmaking forums (and Facebook Groups) other mixers find interesting. I love filmmaking’s collaboration between departments and I often wonder what everyone else is doing on set. Grips especially – what they do looks like magic to me. I recently found the forum hosted by Roger Deakins himself. Hoping his lighting and composition boards will inform my boom operating, even at least a little bit.
