Hi, I'm based in Poland but recently bought a SD442 mixer on ebay that was delivered to my uncle in Hercules, CA. I'm looking for someone to check it over for me. Just a basic operational check of mixer's mic inputs, faders and outputs would be great. If anyone have some spare time and could help, I'll have it delivered to your door and I'm willing to pay a reasonable price. please send pm or email me on:bravojasiu@gmail.com Thanks Bartek

I just watched "The Iron Lady", and in addition to the absolutely remarkable performance by Meryl Streep, I was struck by the use of sound. There were numerous times that the camera (audience) was with MT and people were in other rooms talking about her. Neither us nor the character were meant to hear exactly what was being said. It lended itself to a greater understanding of the solitude she felt throughout her life. As a movie that was truly about the words, I thought both the production and post folks did a great job in keeping it very natural. Robert

A pioneering German researcher decodes newborns’ cries. Here’s what they reveal. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/15/parenting/baby/wermke-prespeech-development-wurzburg.html?algo=identity&fellback=false&imp_id=7307953&imp_id=825213857&action=click&module=Science Technology&pgtype=Homepage It looks like a very interesting and informative study. It's unfortunate that the article only includes one sound clip.

Aloha! I wanted to offer this space up to JWSound before the usual bulletin channels. I’m headed into “the wild yander” in July (for 1-2 months) and I’m looking for a fellow sound mixer to take advantage of my spot. It's sound studio that’s been converted into a live/work space. It’s properly accommodated. Includes an ISO room that doubles as your bedroom for those ADR/foley needs, an optional sound design station, and a bench to stage location gear for your next gig. One convenient part is the location - near heart of Williamsburg and walkable to 3 major subway lines (G, J/M, L) in Brooklyn . Two stops to lower Manhattan. Ideally another sound mixer from afar cou…

So Silver Sound does a festival every year in NYC-- the MVFF+BB-- and we've been working our butts off to make a new website. I'd be very curious to know what you fine JWSound folks think about the web experience. I personally am usually not into websites that start video automatically, but think that it's kind of working here. Also, I'm sure that a few of you are in bands or perhaps have directed music videos... Thanks! www.mvffbb.com

Hey All, Just published my latest blog entry on Sound Related. http://soundrelated.com/the-tharu-pumpkin-man/ This is a recording I made on my last day in Sauraha, Nepal. It features one of the local Tharu villagers singing and playing an odd stringed instrument made from a pumpkin! Very cool. Enjoy! Jo

I seem to have (finally) gotten 'some' attention at SCS regarding B'cast Wave File support in Sound Forge Pro (or lack thereof), which currently has only very basic parameter setting and data info. If anyone would like to offer suggestions, I can get them to someone at SCS who's interested. Here's the message I received:

This caught my attention and made me laugh for the ad below this one says they are looking for a DP for Sony EX 3. So I guess this is a new way to try and get people to work for free, they call it training ? I am almost tempted to call and ask what gear they will train me with. Maybe we should all call and leave them about 1000 voice mails Learn to be a BOOM Operator We will teach you how to operate boom and sound... working with Performers and other Crew members. I've been flying a lot for work recently, and have been watching movie via gogo's in flight entertainment. Currently it's free on Alaska, although I'm sure they will start charging at some point. What struck me instantly was how excessively compressed the audio was. So much so it was constantly distracting. Background noise was almost as loud as the dialog, then would duck out completely when people would talk. All low frequency content was very distorted. The movies sounded TERRIBLE. I can see how it would be beneficial to reduce the dynamic range since we are listening in an incredibly noisy environment, and most people don't have nose canceling or high isolati…

I'm looking to get back into sound fulltime, and would love to sit down with any Portland sound folks to talk about the prospects here. Feeling like a fish out of water, since I've been in a different career since moving out west. Be happy to buy coffee or lunch just to chat. Thanks! Allen

Hey Everybody! I just posted the latest entry on my blog which you can now view here: http://soundrelated.com/the-tharu-stick-dancers-of-sauraha/ For those of you who don't know yet, this blog covers my location recordings made at the start of the year in Nepal and India. This entry I'm in the jungle village of Sauraha, recording the local stick dancers singing and dancing. There is also a recording of some of the local villagers herding some buffalo across a river. And, for the first time, a short video! Enjoy. Jo
