This question is about actual bugs, insects, and how to get rid of them when they invade our gear. i am on a feature shoot in Kenya in a reserve and we have many night shoots. Only we did not anticipate that hundreds of thousands of flying and crawling bugs would be attracted by the lights and litterally invade the set. I had to have art department cover the tin roof of the set with blocking fabric from the gaffer to avoid heavy rain noise that the bugs were making falling under the lights to the roof. now when wrapping and packing we can’t get rid of them all inside the bags and cases. I have a list of the walkie frequencies used on set graciously provided by our Production Coordinator . I would like to find a way in Freq Finder or TX Advance to enter these as potential Intermod creators. Is there a way to do this or is this just a pipe dream? Hello, I am a film student doing research on sound equipment and I was curious about the kinds of microphones used in motion capture. From what I've gathered, lavs are the most typical method of capturing dialogue in this setting because they can be incorporated into the actors' mo-cap suits. But I was curious if a shotgun microphone was also usable in these types of environments because the actors are surrounded by hundreds of cameras. Does a boom mic interfere with the motion capture process since it is bound to be visible by at least one of these still cameras, or is it still the same principle as a typical film shoot where it just has to stay away from the primary cam…

I have a job coming up where they are shooting on I phones. I have a sound devices 633. What frame rate or rates correspond to the frame rates on the i phone? What should I be recording at. We will also be slating the takes with a smart slate.

Just wanted to quickly share a nice experience I had recently. The past few shows/projects I've done have been discouraging to say the least. The sound department was treated as an afterthought (frequently with blatant disrespect) and I was feeling pretty dejected until this most recent show. I got called on to fill-in for another sound mixer on a big budget short. Even though the drive was 3.5 hours from my city, the experience I had on set with the directors was well worth the drive. Hello, all. I can't seem to find this topic on the forum which is odd because I am told this is a known issue. I bought a used HME xmtr from a dealer a year ago and haven't used it a great deal until now and I am discovering that if I just tap the plugon xmtr in a tabletop it looses power. I have to open the battery door and close it and then it powers back on. I can also wack my palm against it and get it come back on sometimes too. I have tried alkaline and rechargable cells. Same thing. I perceive nothing loose inside the battery compartment. Please direct me to a thread that tells me how to fix this or just tell me how to fix it. D…

Help me hive-mind... More and more, I'm hearing young directors and DoPs using the term "money-shot" for their favourite take. Now, my old man old school brain seizes every time, as I have always associated that exclusively with adult film production, and I'm thinking every time that other's on set must be feeling uncomfortable (or not?) I know words and phrases evolve over time... But did I miss the 2023 memo on this, or is still a phrase associated with adult film? There's still no way I'll use it on set, but should I just chill because I'm the only one who notices?

I just mic’d up my first non human. I’ve done car tones/instrument panel sounds. Today I put a mic on a non-human robot. It’s just a lav mic in front of a speaker. Anybody else done this? With all the Ai talk, I thought I’d share my experience.

This does not apply to union members in LA or New York as those cities don't use the Area Standards contracts. This year I volunteered for my local 478 ASA negotiations team, and I need proposals. My local will submit proposals along with all the other locals. Those proposals will be from all departments, and after a certain period no new proposals can be submitted. Hello, I'm currently doing some research in what direction to go in for choosing an upgrade for our current wireless systems that we use. They are still in working condition but trying to figure out which route I should go into. I use a sound device 633 and it's in great condition. The lav kits we use are a Sennheiser G2 and Sennheiser G3 kit. The G2 kit is looking a little rough and want to upgrade it. I was initially thinking going in the direction of purchasing a Sennheiser G4 kit. But wondering if we should towards more professional lavalier systems such as the Sound Devices A10-digital wireless system or even some kind of Lectrosonics wireless…

There're a couple of scenes in my coming project with the main actor chatting on his mobile with an actress whose voice has been recorded in another country. The reason we pre-recorded it is that the director wants the main actor to hear the actress' actual voice "IN THE MOBILE" rather than having someone of the crew to deliver the actress' lines on set. During the pre-production, the director will ask the actor to converse with the actress' pre-recorded lines to confirm each break he needs to say his lines and will create audio files scene by scene with enough space for the main actor for his lines. Can someone help me out with how the Zaxcom eco system works? From what I know, their stuff records to a 'propiatary' .zax file, that needs to be converted to BWF after offloading. Situation: Client shoots with 20+ Zax recorders (and no, I have no clue what kind of them, client is on vacation now, but I have time, so I want to be ahead.) My job is to autosequence them and put them into one giant 50 track / 24 hour+ BWF file. That's no issue, but converting all the inputs to BWF before I do my thing seems silly. I think .ZAX is plain PCM data, am I right? Can someone help me with some info on how things are stored? (Short testclips would be nice!) …

Does anyone have experience with payment via Stripe? An old client hired me for a one-day shoot (completed last week), said they would pay me directly, and now want me to sign up with Stripe. Half way through the sign up they want my DOB, SSN, bank info, and then there's a contract or contract-like document talking of fees and charges. I've emailed Isaac at Crew Mama, asking about such charges. So far, no response.
