Hello! I was curious if anyone had antenna reccos to improve the FM radio reception on my old receiver. Here is a photo of the antenna ports, any leads would be appreciated, thanks.

this is totally off the sound-book but: I want to give a present to a UK family. My German family loves a game called „Scotland Yard“. Is this known amongst UK families or will it be (hopefully) a surprise?

Saw this watching the morning news and really enjoyed the way they presented the story. Iconic, and you will recognize it even if you had no idea. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/an-iconic-hollywood-sound-effect-called-the-wilhelm-scream-was-uncovered-in-an-archive/

A month ago I spent my day off with the great senator Mike Michaels. We had Chicken and Waffles and a great conversation. He is doing good but staying away from the internet. Which is admirable and something that I inspire to do. I snapped a photo which my Leica CL on a Kodak XX 5222 cinema B&W stock. Developed in Kodak Xtol 1:1 at 75F

So we all have this idea that around 1 kHz is the average freq for human voice. Maybe it's between 800 and 2,000 Hz? I've read how our hearing is particularly attuned to those frequencies because of this. My recent activities have brought this into question. I just got a free phone app called Pano Tuner, which features an active, moving note-and-frequency display. I've been experimenting with trying to hold pitches and guess at notes (learn perfect pitch), which is super fun. My lowest note is about 96 Hz in between A and G flat. (Throat singing can bring that down to about 56 Hz.) My absolute highest pitch is around 1446 Hz, between F and G flat. (But I have p…

Text by Eric Nelson May 24, 2023 https://www.newyorker.com/culture/the-new-yorker-documentary/keys-to-the-city Quote: Anyone who has locked them-self out of a car or building knows the panicky feeling of vulnerability that sets in when the door you took for granted will no longer open. The director and cinematographer Ian Moubayed found himself in that exact situation several years ago, when he got locked out of his New York City apartment in the middle of the night. He found a locksmith to help him get back in, and he realized that locksmiths have a unique window on the lives of New Yorkers—they are …

Hello sound location enthusiasts! I'm a Brazilian audio professional currently based in Canada, and I would love to hear your insights on a topic that has been on my mind. I'm considering returning to Brazil and am particularly interested in opportunities to work on international audio projects, such as documentaries, news reports, and short films. As someone with experience and knowledge of both Brazil and Canada, I believe that my ability to provide invoices from my Canadian-based company could be an advantage. However, I'm curious to know if international companies commonly hire local freelancers for such projects in Brazil. Your experiences …

Dear soundies, I wanted to ask if you use any tricks to estimate the field of view of respective lenses in order to quickly estimate how close the boom & the body of the operator can come to the frame? I assume it comes intuitively with years of experience but I was wondering if anyone has any tips. I've been booming for about a year and a half now and getting better at estimating how close I can get but still need a lot of practise to become more precise & quick at it. I'm doing mostly TV and doco work in which the framing is rarely pre-determined and in which sound dept is only 1 person. On that note : does it ever happen in d…

This is too funny, at least in hindsight. First time ever my double alarm for an early call this morning was set for PM by mistake, so after 20yrs i am finally in sync with time of day on my slate. I am now switching my phone clock to 24 hr time. There was a mad rush to just barely make it in on time this morning (and talent even more late than I was which was an added bonus). Pushing my vertical cart in a hurry to beat the rain on top of it all, went down a small slope into the street to get to the loading dock and went DOWN on the cart. Literally. Cart fell forward and stupid me did not let go. I can laugh at it all now with only a few scraped shins from the metal but …

Disclaimer, I do NOT want a political / religious discussion. BUT: I've got a request to work for Scientology. If I were in a position to be able to refuse work, I would leave it instantly. But you've guessed, I'm not... Now, where is the line? I could really use some money, but I'm not really comfortable with the idea that my work will help sucking in people into something I call 'bad'. 'No discrimination' does not apply in this situation IMHO. What do you think? @ Jeff, monitor this and step in if this goes off the track.

I bought a used SL-6 couple of months ago but just getting around now to using it with my SRb’s. I’m use to line level +5 on my srb but with SL-6 it has to be -6 db in the slot. I’m having to set my trim around 9 o-clock with my SMQV with COZ-11 set around 18-20 db. I’m finding it to hard to find that sweet spot where the audio level isn’t too low or hitting the limiter once i go up on the trim. Am I missing something here? Sorry if I’m not too technical on my explanations.

Has anyone used Comtek as a scratch track for camera? I’ve used ifb R1a before with no issues but with Comtek I can’t seem to get any level. Any input would be appreciated.

Has anyone used passive and active antenna together with a splitter? I see RF venue has a splitter with one for active and passive. Wondering if anyone has done this set up before and can give some advice.

Fox News Article Has anyone seen these A.I. Generated fake Joe Rogan podcasts? I immediately started thinking about how it could be used for ADR or even to clean up reference tracks. I remember reading years ago about Roger Ebert and how they used a large sample library of his DVD commentary to create a synthesized voice / sampler for him to use with a keyboard.

Hello, I was on filming on location as the location sound recordist at the Globe and Mail building in Toronto. It is an office space and it was a walk and talk situation with a single person on camera. I was working with a wireless Senheisser G3/G2 kit and had the speaker mic'd up. I was at a distance as to not be caught on camera and I was able to hear the speaker clear with no interference. As the speaker reached to a certain point of the room the audio just dropped out and I could not hear them speaking. Their voice would come back after leaving this particular area. I thought maybe the batteries needed to be changed and the same thing happened in the same…

For news, documentary, corporate, reality, etc., I contend that timecode slates are superfluous. Video cameras record 24/48 audio, and NLEs have waveform sync for backup files. Yet I still see timecode slates used, even for one-camera, one-subject interviews. Thoughts?

Hello everyone! I am currently working on the production of a musical. I’m doing FOH. One of the actresses is moving a lot and on the ground where putting the mic pack on her back or anywhere around her waist seems like a bad idea. Any tips on where to hide the mic pack so that it’s both safe and out of sight. You guys are the best!!

I was having a discussion with (what I suspect is) a young filmmaker on a different forum. and he's asking for a way to crank the post sound levels up more than 30dB, 30dB being the current limitation of Fairlight. I asked, "why would you need to adjust post sound levels up +30dB? That sounds incredibly extreme!" I come from old-school Pro Tools where we were limited to I think either 10dB or 12dB without adding an extra Trim plug-in for additional range. Even 10dB for normal dialogue is exceptionally rare (to me). I did some quick math and came up to the conclusion that 30dB works out to 1000 times the intensity of a 0dB signal, (subjectively) 8 times as loud…

Since I needed one, and wanted to toy around a little, I've made one. It's intended to monitor levels during recording / live streaming where you want to achieve a specific overall loudness. Mac only at the moment. If someone wants to toy with it, and if possible, compare it with other stuff out there, drop me a line.

I have a coming series with some scenes where all female talents are in bikinis having dialogues near a swimming pool. Fortunately, they won't go into the water, but that's the only good thing. The bikini is a big trouble. It's a drama, so if talents are being wired, obviously the lavs are to be hidden, which I doubt can be done. What's worse is that it's a two-cam shoot . If the framing strategy is one for wide, the other for tight all the time, I'm worried that both boom mics won't be able to go close enough. Anyone been in the same situation?
