Doing some research on Wireless Designer, I'm interested in using it to help coordinate my freq's and scan the area. However, I don't have any compatible Lectro gear currently (No DSDQ or Venue, just some SRc's). I was curious if anyone has any experience connecting it with a third party scanner, such as an RF Explorer? I did read on Lectro's website it can accept data from various devices, but I'm assuming that means I have to conduct a scan then import the data, I'm hoping there is a way to do the scan inside WD real time.

Shout out to the astounding (and huge) production sound team who achieved an amazing feat on Justin Timberlake's new music video for "Say Something"! This marvel was filmed in one take, and on the first try, featuring a live performance with a 60 person choir and about 20 other various musicians (among a 200 person crew), facilitated by top-notch production sound. I'm curious if anyone on the 6+ person sound team is on this forum and would be interested in talking about all the coordination required to pull this off, especially the wrangling of all the wireless gear, which apparently required a dedicated 3 person RF team to manage. Great job to everyone who contributed to…

Hi guys, I'm based in Pakistan and am curious as to how one decides what Block to choose for their wireless while purchasing. I found a list of Pakistan Frequency Allocations online, but am not sure how to make sense of it. http://www.pta.gov.pk/media/Pakistan_Table_of_Frequency_Allocations.pdf What do blocks of frequencies we're entitled to come listed as in a list like this? Is it obvious which blocks are useful for Location Audio wireless in this list? Do the ones that we're not allowed to use just show up as unavailable while scanning? Thanks for any insight/info folks! Faiz Z

Hi everyone, pleased to touch down on jwsound for the first time. I will be shooting a documentary in Tuva, southern Siberia in the summer. Does anyone have experience of wireless frequencies in this area? I will be using G3's and possibly Sony UWP's. Or any experience of recording in this area in general? Many thanks, Lewis

Apologies in advance if this has been covered, but searches yielded no appropriate info. When I'm not recording on productions I moonlight as a musician playing guitar and I was wondering whether it would be easy to use my Lectro wireless to transmit the guitar signal to the amp? What kind of cable convert would you need to plug a guitar into say a UM400a or UM200c? Would the impedance of the guitar signal be a problem running into the mic pack transmitter? And also at the other end if I used say a UCR411a or UCR210D before the amp. What could I use to turn the the wireless signal into a usable signal for the amp? I realise that there are dedicated wireless guitar syste…

I just took an enquiry about a three day run and gun ENG type shoot. and during the rate negotiations the producer passed on a request that the camera op would like to have a wireless camera hop if possible so we don't have to be tethered, however they didn't budget for it in the rental package. I told her that I do have the Zaxcom hop, and I could maybe do some kind of discount on the rental. The response was less than enthusiastic- 'We just thought it would be easier for you and the camera guy if you could just bring it as we will moving around a lot of crowded spaces, but as long as it sounds good you can hard wire if you like- it makes no difference to us' …

I would like to know if anyone has any info about the situation with the frequencies in Europe. I read most of the EU parliament decisions and data I could find, and what I get was that the frequencies we mostly use (470 - 700) are not secure, not even in the next few years. There is a lot of pressure from mobile companies and satellite's communication and transmissions, so we will have changes in the near future. What is your option about different channels? 470-541MHz / 566-638 / or 638-700 seem more safe? What about 2.4/.2.5 GHz digital Tx/Tr?

Just checking if anyone knows what's going on with wireless frequencies across Europe and internationally as of next year? I'm based in the UK and we're being moved from our allocated channel 69 (854-862MHz) to channel 38(606-614Mhz) I've done a couple of jobs in France and Portugal this year and been able to use frequencies in the 800MHz band, but are these being sold off in other places as well? I'm also aware that CH38 is used internationally for radio astronomy (I believe it's illegal to use in the US), is it going to be possible to use frequencies in this area (around 600-630MHz) across Europe, or will it be necessary to hire other wireless kit, get…

I'm heading to Munich for a week of ENG style work and was wondering if any one has had trouble with radios there. Are they as lax as the FCC in terms of power out put and frequency blocks? any thoughts?

Hi Friends I am a newbie to wireless link to camera and haven't ever used it I am shooting a doc shot on High Def and the Cameraman insists on a wireless link I am working with the crew for the 1st time and it is going to be a tough shoot I don't know the camera person and wouldn't like to depend on him for the monitoring off camera, i feel it is not his responsibility So I am not able to decide on this I feel safer wired But would like to know the opinion of the more experienced pros Also should I be doing a back up shooting on a Hi Def, for sound quality, my earlier shoots were single system with Hi Def(wired ),no backups, is it a norm to use …

Does anyone here have insight into operating wireless systems in close proximity to high power transmitters? Or any fanatical RF gurus willing to chime in about the potential risks? I am a staff audio engineer at a university, and I have become the de-facto RF coordinator. I keep track of over 100 UHF wireless systems spread across our 225 acre campus. I have been asked about the impact of potential telecommunication equipment installation (e.g. cellular antennas) on buildings. The information I have does not specify frequencies or technologies, so I have to assume "telecommunications equipment" could include traditional cellular 1GHz and up, 600-700MHz ba…

On this thursday, Sept 20, production has come up with a scenario of sound mixer in a boat with camera and me (boom-op) on the back of a sea-doo with a driver, perhaps to boom. They are also requesting we wire the actors who will be wearing wet-suits and on surfboards. The dialogue takes place while sitting on the boards looking to shore. I believe we will be utilizing the lectro MM400, and Sanken cos-11: manufacturer claims water resistant. Some say, give it a fresh water bath when you are done and there are no problems. I'm not so sure the Lectrosonic term 'water resistant' means it can be hidden in a wet suit and occasionally immersed in sea water as actors cli…
