My boys love this movie, and I've seen it several times with them, along with The Incredibles. WALL-E is on ABC Family right now, and I still can't get over how stunning the sound design is. If you haven't seen either of these movies, I highly recommend them. Not only are they fantastic sounding movies, they are extremely well done overall, and fun.

so I just finished watching Stranger things and didn’t stop the credits on the very last episode cause I wanted to read who the PSM was. I thought I missed it because so many titles went through and after the accountants I never expected to find the PSM basically hidden somewhere between office PA and camera trainee. Is that common sense?? Hope not!

There is a bug in IP.Board v. 3.1.4 (that's what we're running here) that can cause boards to show there are unread messages when all have been read. as reported on support forum: "There is a bug in IPBoard 3.1.4 which results in 'read' forums appearing to contain 'unread' posts." So sorry about that one. It has been fixed but requires update to software and I'm not up to updating anything right at the moment. So, we live with a little bug for now.

Researchers at MIT have just given new meaning to the term "wearing a wire." They've made a new acoustic fiber out of a certain kind of plastic that's normally used in microphones. This means that someday you could wear a shirt made of these threads, and the whole thing would pick up sound, functioning as a wearable microphone. It gets weirder. Scientists say such a material might also act like the opposite of a piezoelectric substance, with movement generating electricity rather than the other way around. So not only can this stuff pick up all the sounds around you, it could help charge up your phone at the same time. It's also capable of making tiny sounds. The scien…

This is a regional question, but I think this is a good place to ask since you all have ears. Next month we're filming at a bakery in Point Reyes Station, in Northern California. For the key interview, the bakery and environs are too loud; the next door cheese-making place runs their HVAC 24/7. I've looked for alternatives (Airbnbs, inns, barns, etc), but am less-than thrilled with what I'm finding, both sonically and visually. Would love a place that is visually cool; need a place that's quiet enough for a one-hour (hopefully less) on-camera interview. Has anyone recorded an interview in West Marin, and especially near Point Reyes Station, at a location that …

Just an article from the BBC website I thought I would share. Interesting. The technique exploits what is called the "orbital angular momentum" of the waves - imparting them with a "twist". Varying this twist permits many data streams to fit in the frequency spread currently used for just one. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17221490 Hooray for innovators!

Hey y'all. I need some help with a pet project I've been writing for a little over a year. It is not audio related, but I do need a relatively small (relative to the mass scale that I'd like to get to) number of proof of concept testers to get a feel for how the system plays out. Think of it as a "No Drama" social network. It lives as an extension in your browser (Chrome only, for now) and gives you a Like/Dislike button and a Comment field for any webpage. You also get to see other "friend" users comments for that webpage and you can Like/Dislike those as well. That's all you have to worry about. An algorithm decides who your friends are and what comments you see b…

As someone who does a wide variety of jobs from reality shows to long format work and everything in between I have been struggling recently to stay organized while being compact I also have not been flying as much as I use to and wanted to eliminate my heavy storm cases Since many weeks one day I may be doing simple to camera interviews while the next I may be doing a commercial I usually spend 15-20 minutes packing and unpacking gear for every job which has gotten old so I decided this week I was going to do something about it. I also just have an SUV and really don't want a van to drive around in or a trailer to haul. So I decided to go the Stanley Fat Max route that ma…

We have all seen the multitude of apps out there on the iphone and ipad that are targeted at the film industry (countless slate apps, viewfinders etc) but I'm wondering what apps people are actually using to do their job. Cheers all Michael

In general, I hate movies that span a lifetime because they make life seam like it is way too short to be summed up in a 2 hour movie. But, I have to give praise to this little short, on so many levels. http://vimeo.com/4626809 It sums it up in 47 seconds, and notice the beats.. Indicating of course how each progressive milestone seams like it's faster and faster. I've identified all the milestones, but a few, such as the dog, I don't get.. Also, it looks like it was filmed on a Canon SLR camera with a fish eye lens too. -Richard

Hi, which is it the smallest form factor stereo mic configuration I can use using diy omni mics to avoid phase cancellation problems in the theatre? I want to mount 2 diy omni mics in my Rycote blimp, but I need a suggestion about the stereo configuration (mics placement) focused on avoiding phase cancellation in theatres. Thx for you attention!

Hey all, So I have been thinking about joining CAS and wanted to query the current members out there. It seems like a cool organization, focused on education and recognizing our fellow soundies. I'd also love to connect with some more post-sound heads in NYC and thought this would be a great opportunity to do that. Yea? I am curious about dept designation. On the application you must choose either production OR post-production sound. I happen to do both, but have found myself gravitating more towards post over the past few years. I wanted to see what the consequence, if any, there was to picking one over the other? I have my five years of confirmable credit…

Hi guys, Working on a discovery series and I've got my guys on cl-wifi's inputting subjects names on the ISo tracks of our 788's in the field so the loggers and editors don't have to relabel everything in the stack but avid doesn't seem to be able to transfer those to sessions in post. They come up in the bins but not on the timeline. Has anyone else come up against this.? I was convinced that this would have been a simple step.

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone might have any urban New Delhi atmos? I am interested in high quality stereo recordings only, if the price is right. I am looking for side street (not at all traffic busy) morning, afternoon and night atmos. Some locals random chatter, street kids chatter would be a bonus. Message if you have something at hand. Thanks!
