Hello everyone, My name is Lilay. I apologize in advance for my English. I need the help of experienced people in the field of recording sounds of nature. I am very attracted to the recording of natural ambient, namely the so-called silence and very quiet sounds. I'm a beginner and the budget is limited, I already have a Zoom H5 as a recording device. The Rode NTG 5 microphone with a full set of accessories, a tripod that suits me, a powerbank for powering the Zoom H5. Now I have a question about buying a good microphone for stereo recording. Zoom h5 microphones are already starting to make a lot of noise at level 6-7.My budget is small, I can allocate abo…

Why have I, for close to 20 years, had my Sound Devices 788T set to Poly .Wav? I record acoustic music on my 788T now exclusively, and while Pro Tools doesn't have any problems importing a Poly .Wav file onto separate tracks, my DAW of choice, Reaper, needs to have the Poly files split by (still going strong) Wave Agent. Not a big deal but an extra step. So why was I alway solidly against printing Mono .Wav files on my 788T? Re-set the 788T to Mono .Wav files for the next job. Can't see why not. Why not? Getting old. CRS. Can't remember shit! D.

Rather than bumping a thread from 2013 I figured starting new might be in order. The source for my mylar/foil/laminated labels has gone away from years ago and I've gone through several orders of very bad replacements. I do a simple Name/Phone/Location on my labels, with no barcode. My inventory is done a different way (spreadsheets, etc). Need a new source. Who do you use for labels and how has the label performed? Thanks all... P

Glenn Sanders let me know that the Zaxcom Facebook group is down and they're working with Facebook to get it back up and running. In the meantime, feel free to use JWSOUNDGROUP for your discussions. Hopefully the regular Zaxcom Facebook group will be back soon.

Thoughts on what is going on here with the Zaxcom Maxx's timecode? I can't seem to get it in sync with a TC box. I've tried both a Tentacle and an Ultrasync ONE, and different cables. So I doubt they're the problem, and it must be the Maxx instead. I've tried different FPS settings, I've rebooted the Maxx. And yes, I know I need to set the TC BNC connector on the Maxx to either input or output as appropriate (I've tried both to have the Maxx jam to an external source. And also tried the Maxx as the master to jam a TC box to it). I've tried both free run and continous external. I feel like I've tried every possible combo or work around possible! And yet Maxx i…

I've emailed Lectro already, but I'm curious if anyone can help me in here. I recently purchased some secondhand x2 ucr411a's and a um400 unit. They are in great physical condition and the UCR411a's are as amazing as ever. However, the UM400 unit is giving me some trouble with its connection. Whenever I plug in a mic I get a low frequency rumble and static. I'll link audio recordings of the problem here https://youtu.be/mea6MYKZA7I and I'll include pictures of the connector/internals of the unit here as well. (not going to take apart the motherboard because I'm scared lol) Stinks because I just got these, but I wanna see if its a simple fix or nee…

I started hearing intermittent static sounds in one of my UTX-B03 transmitters. Sounds just like an FM radio between stations—comes and goes. Problem presents at locations I recorded in for years with no issues. I ruled out mics, batteries, and power supplies, always sync to open frequencies before each use, and run the OEM Sony locking TRS-XLR cables into my Sound Devices recorder. Compander set to UWP. Firmware is up to date. Sony tech support went through all the troubleshooting with me and concluded it's maybe the UTX-B03 preamp—if I send it to Sony for repair, it's a $155 non-refundable consult + shipping and I will probably end up paying about $275 …

I recently purchased the MCR54 receiver to go with my MixPre10T. When I scan frequencies with the recorder turned off, I get much lower RF noise levels than when I turn the recorder on. My receiver sits on top of the MixPre, I have a junior stingray bag and there isn't much of a way I could physically separate the two. I am an extreme RF noob, but I understand it wouldn't be proper to just "extend" my whips using two short SMA cables (ground plane issues?). Is there anything else I could do? Wrap the recorder in some sort of RF shielding material? Or just go ahead and buy the Betso Bowties? Do higher end mixer-recorders even have to deal with this issue (RF spray),…

Any experience? I direct a show where a Tricaster gets fed by a mixer, to livestream to YouTube. All levels 'seem' a bit correct, but the feed's return (from YouTube) is VERY low volume. I'm not talking details, it's 30 dB lower than expected. I am NOT the owner of the Tricaster, nor the mixer, I have no clue where to look... / give directions. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, new to this forum, but have read a number of helpful threads here before and thus when i found myself in a pickle and in need of some pointers and advice I though i would ask this here. some background: I have been using Nagra for some time, mostly a 4.2 for sound effects and tape loops. I have some experience in problem solving these, internal fuses and so on, many moons ago I got a very thorough guide at Pro Sound (nyc) all recorded to tape on the machine we inspected. I recently borrowed a rather well used 4 IV-S for digitisation purposes, this machine works well for playback, but off-course i want to also try the nice preamps and do some re…

I'm wondering if anyone happen to have the program software for Phonak TX300V, since I would need to reset the channels of it. I actually downloaded one from duplex.com, but it requires password. Thank you so much!!

The XLR connector of one of my UCR411As just fell off out of no reason. The audio is still fine, but since the battery lid won't be able to close anymore, the battery compartment is basically dead. Although I don't need the battery supply, I'm still worried that the loose connector can end up completely falling apart. Is there a way to DIY fixing it? IMG_1600.MOV

Hi, I am looking for a cheap spectrum analyzer to find the best UHF band for my wireless transmitters (Sony UWP-D) on location. The receivers can perform an auto scan for the best channels, but I first have to set the Band (for example TV21 to 23 or 24 to 26 or 27 to 29) and Channel group, so they will not interfere. Did anybody try these cheap scanners like Tiny SA? You can get it in Germany for about 50 Euros. https://www.tinysa.org/wiki/ Somebody here was already talking about RF Explorer (about 200 Euros), but I was wondering, if it is so much better than the cheap Tiny SA.

Dear readers, We are a team of game audio people that are working on a set of VR projects. The studio is investing in their own mocap stage and are looking to get the audio system in there as well. I've been looking at lav mic solutions but it's dizzying with the amount of stuff on the market. I was thinking (as most game audio people do) we needed the audio to be as clean as possible, like no bleed from other actors what so ever. This is so we can trigger it whenever we want in game. Looking at mics with those characteristics I've come across the Sennheisser MKE 40 and the DPA 4099... In a post on performance capture audio on here from a couple of y…

Hello, i've bought a Wlav pro to test with my Lectros. With the Microdot to ta5f supplied with the mic, In the 200 series, no problem at all. In the 400 ( SM, 400'stx), i'm having big hiss. Any experiences on that?, do i need to wire the connector mic at the end for the Digital Hybrid series? Any experiences on that?, thanks! Sound is good, a bit sibilant....

Hello everyone, new guy here that is looking to get into location sound and hoping to focus on smaller budget films. I have been piecing a kit together over the past year so I'm ready to go when it's time to close the door on my current job. I have had the privilege of working on 2 indie films so far, one of the crews I worked alongside is based in Atlanta and I am considering moving there early next year if I can't find anything in my area (near north Dallas, TX). Listed below is what I currently have or looking to buy and was looking for advice on anything I might be forgetting/recommendations/etc. Money is not a huge factor but good deals are certainly welcomed and I'd…

Hi, I have been using a PSC RF multi (distro function on, amplifier function off) with the Diversity fin (dipole & sharkfin combo, non-powered) for several years with mostly flawless results. However i'm on a job now where one of the 6 wireless is play is giving me frequent drop outs due to the perfect combo of that talent being just far enough with the transmitter on their back, with their body directly in line between the raised antenna and the transmitter. There was no way to adjust it on the fly today (and the problem was minor enough), but I'm planning on fixing it before we go tomorrow and butting up against my knowledge of antenna distribution / s…

Thought I’d share a new favorite piece of kit I picked up last year for the purpose of ambient recordings on documentary projects. The siriu 5c traveller folds up super small, and making recordings while not freezing up my body trying to be perfectly still has been a welcome change haha.

Hi, does anyone have experience with the workflow of scorpio and just the x+? I am trying to find something online without any luck. I prefer the more compact size of x+ and don't need the d2 screen, I will just use it as an old style mixer fader. Any knowledge will be appreciated. Thank you

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone has successfully used DPA 6060's to record AB stereo ambiences? I know that a lot of people have had good experiences using the 4060's and was wondering if I can hit two birds with one stone and purchase 2x 6060's for laving purposes as well as additionally being able to record ambiences every so often. thanks for the help! Julian
