I purchased two TL-40 Lavs last week one in black and one in white. Upon using the lavs for the first time I was impressed by the build quality and how white the white lav is. The shade is much lighter than my white Sanken cos-11. The Lav head is about the size of a B3 but thankfully doesn't sound like a B3 or B6 microphone. It actually has a very flat and uncolored sound which I like it can also take alot of SPL. I had a very loud talent wired today and never had any mic level distortion at all or had to adjust the transmitter input gain to prevent overload. Just like the B3 or Cos-11 it was very easy to conceal and I found the cable to be of good construction. Overall I…

I have 2 of the MAHA 8 bay chargers which are great but I'd like a smaller 4 bay charger with built in power supply for some of my lighter ENG days. Anyone have a great 4 bay charger that is small and compact. I am using Powerex 2700 batteries

Edit: This issue is solved. As Jaymz suggested, the receiver was getting T-power from my 302. Silly me. "Is the power cord connected?" Can someone recognize my new "friend"? One of my two G3's is outputting a pulselike "signal" (an unwanted one, that is). You can check a recording of it from the link below: https://docs.google....eE5GRU50RTJXb0U It's sometimes lower, sometimes higher. As you can deduct from the recording, the receiver puts it out even when the transmitter is off. What's worse, it puts it out along with a transmitter signal, so it get mixed into the sound. When a transmitter is on, it seems that it's mostly gone when there's only ambient noi…

Hello Everybody, I am in the market for an IFB system for multiple clients to monitor the program audio. Aside from the cost difference between Comtek and Lectro (in their latest generation, not the old stuff), are there any other "real world" benefits between one and the other? Thanks, Steve

After being mocked for still using the Denecke 48v power supply for wireless boom, I've decided to finally ask people on this board if they've ever tried modifying the Audio Ltd power supply for use with the Switchcraft TA5F. I'm aware that Audio Ltd's use a 6-pin Lemo connector and that power for the phantom power supply is provided from the transmitter's 9V battery through the Lemo connector, so I'm not sure that it's possible, but I thought maybe someone has tried this more elegant solution with success. Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone had experience with the SSD vs. the HDD model of the 788t. More specifically, I'm wondering if there is any difference between the average operating temperature. Seems like, in theory at least, the SSD would run cooler. Right? I own the HDD model, but with the NYC summer fast approaching, and a few potential long days on reality gigs outdoors, I'm trying to think of ways to keep cool. Changing out drives was just one idea I had. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well. Cheers.

I recently purchased an Oktava Mk012 with the hypercardioid cap from the Sound Room. Tested the mic at home when I got it, and it sounded fine. Then I took it to the location where I was working, and it behaved very badly. It gave off a quiet but noticeable hum, and when I boomed it towards anything electrical (ranging from light fixtures to laptops) the hum increased dramatically. When I took the mic outside at the same location, it quieted down nicely. Then I turned the mic toward an electrical box on the exterior of the house, and the hum returned. At any rate, I returned the mic for a full refund, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what caused t…

Looks like I've got the opportunity to travel to Guatemala and India/Nepal within the next few months. I want to record every crazy sound and ambience I come across to add to my personal library. If anyone else does field recording I'd like to know what your travel setup is like. I'll be backpacking so I want to keep it super light. I'm thinking along the lines of a 416 for spot FX and perhaps the BP4025 for ambience. Both pistol gripped. Is there a blimp that will work with both of those? I'd love to buy a 302 if only it had an internal recorder. The new Fostex r302 seems like a good option, but I'm open to others. Cheers as always.

I learned about yet another multitrack recorder in the location sound market called the 4Minx. It was showcased this year at NAB. I thought I'd share its link with everyone here at JWSound. In terms of review, I don't know what to say other than it will leave you speechless. Anyway! Check it out for yourselves.

Hi all, I just bought an RF MULTI SMA and I'd like to know if I can power it with a IDX NP-L7S through my PSC POWERSTAR MINI. I know that the RF MULTI SMA accepts a dc source between 10 and 15Vdc, but my NP-L7S fully charged is on 16V, or more. Powering the RF MULTI with the NP-L7S could damage it? Can I solve the problem without having to buy another battery? Thanks! Piero.

I am looking to buy a paddle antenna to get better range out of my Lectros in certain situations where I can't be close enough to the talent. I would like to get one antenna which I would connect to one SMA connector on each receiver. I know another mixer who uses a skeleton Lectro sharkfin like this and is very happy with it. I've read all the threads I found about shark fin/paddle antennas but I still don't feel like I know much about the subject (passive or active antenna? splitter? amp? what?). Any hints or resources would be helpful. Basically I'm looking for cheaper alternatives to the Lectro active ALP antennas. Oh, and being in Germany, Euro resources for not-so…

I was on a documentary shoot last week about The Big Climb, which is a fundraiser for LLS where around 6000 people climb 1130 steps up the Columbia Tower in Seattle. Fun shoot. Had a wireless hop going to camera on block 21 Lectro, and a block 21 IFB running in my bag. No problems all day long, and my block 21 and 24 talent radios were clean. My crew then went up to the 73rd floor to film the climbers exiting the stairway, and I noticed the RF on my talent radios going crazy, so I did a scan and it looked like this: Good thing I didn't need my talent mics up there! I'm not sure how the camera hop dealt with it, but I was recording on my Nomad in case, …

I have a TRX900/STA150 and RX900S I am trying to use as a body pack that I can jam TC to. I was told the easiest way would be to use my STA150 for jamming via the TC minijack. I can't figure out if I am having a cable issue, or something with a setting in the TRX900. I have the TRX set up to take a manual jam from the STA-150 side connector and then run on the internal clock. Anyone do it this way, and how did you get it going? EDIT: ok, I am trying a stereo minijack with nothing on the ring connection. Still no jam.

I'm curious how the 8050 performs in small-ish rooms (hotel room, hospital rooms, living rooms etc.). Specifically looking for a comparison to the MKH 50. Any opinions from anyone who owns / have used both? (I know I can go rent one etc. but would like some opinions from others who have used them both "in the field"). What are the (real world) main differences in sound and off-axis rejection / echo rejection to your ears?

Has anyone used a jumper cable to move the zaxnet antenna to a different location in the bag? My bag won't allow for me to use the anttena in it's normal spot. I like the bag, I don't want a new one. I'm looking at these options on link and mounting in the bag. http://www.surplussales.com/Connectors/SMA-4.html

Hello Everyone, Just got back from getting Axient Certified at Shure out in the Chicago area. Was talking to some of there people about the uses for the system and was curious what people thought of it as a cart system or as a tool for some of the more studio driven reality tv shows. Also if anyone has any questions about it I'm more then happy to answer.

Hi, I've just got my nomad. Really enjoyed the possibility of doing fine adjustements on the compressor and its transparency as well. Hence my question. How many of you, if any, use compression when recording, not only as a way of avoiding distortion (limiting) but to make dialog sound bigger and fuller?

Hi, A while ago, there were a number of reports of noise problems with the Sennheiser modular series microphones, with some users mentioning click, pops, etc. As far as I can gather, this was due to a manufacturing problem, which was being fixed. The last report I can find on the problem still existing was in February of this year and since then, nothing. As I'm looking to purchase an MKH8060 in the near future, I'd like to be sure that this problem no longer exists, so if there are any users out there who can confirm or deny, that would be useful. Many thanks, John

I'm very interested in this microphone, can anybody share some experiences? Maybe on other hydrophones? Also interested in opinions about stereo vs. mono hydrophone recordings. http://www.aquarianaudio.com/ For an upcoming documentary I'm going to do some experiments with underwater recordings and create a nice library for post.
