So im going to be moving away from renting my TC gear and buying my own. However, I'm trying to keep it under 1000. I was thinking of the idea of just getting TC box and just jam to cameras rather than using a slate and a TC box on camera. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, I am really in need of your help. Does anyone own a Schoeps B1D windscreen and live locally in Los Angeles? I would like to test one of these on an MK41 in a podium speech setting to see how well it handles close plosives. Is anyone willing to let me test it either at my studio (in Los Feliz) or at yours? I'd happily treat you to a coffee afterwards if you'd like. Please let me know!! Any dealer near Los Angeles is fresh out of stock and I would have to order one to be able to test - but I'd like to test before I ordered... Thanks very much!!! Sincerely, Ryan

Im starting a show today and have tested my CL WIFI and it works awesome, BUT cameras have Starlink transmitters on them tuned to channel 2 and Channel 8. The WIFI works with the channel 8 transmitter powered on, but with the channel 2 starling, my CL WIFI won't connect. Any way around this other than trying every channel on the starlink. This rally puts a dent in my workflow! Thanks, ROB

Is anyone using rechargeable 9V batteries with good success on Lectro UM400a transmitters? I have PowerEx AA batteries on some Sennheiser 2000 transmitters and receivers and those have always done well. I'm curious about the 9V's and how they fare. Thanks!

Me again. Random thing I'm curious if anyone has experimented with. The Mirror files obviously make a copy of what is recorded first to the primary card. If I go back, and re-name a take, or add a note that the last take was "room tone", but the Nomad has already mirrored the segment (since it does it automatically). I'm assuming that means that the mirror files would then lack the same meta-data as the primary. The work around to this would be to leave mirrored off, until you know there is a break, or a scene change, and that all your meta data is up to date. Just curious

Anyone know what frequency corresponds to Comtek channel 7-0? I can't find it on my Comtek freq cheat sheet. Other 7-x numbers are in the range of 174-179 MHz, so I'm guessing it's up there somewhere, but I'd like to know for sure. I've emailed Comtek as well, but thought someone might know here. Brian

Had some weird issues yesterday using Lectro UCR411s with SMQVs and COS11s into a 552. As you can hear in the sample below, the signal starts off OK but quickly becomes muffled, distorted, and loses volume. It stays like this during constant dialogue, however, when there is a break in the dialogue, the quality comes back for a sec before fading again. http://soundcloud.co...-wireless-issue I tried multiple TX and RX, a new mic, new batteries, and scanned for new frequencies. Frequencies weren't that pretty as we were next door to a construction site, but there were some clear areas. Any help is appreciated, hopefully just a silly mistake on my part. …

I was reading reviews of so-called Desktop Amplifiers for use with computers and came across what might be a very useful product for the sound cart. For those who are not able to build their own little power amp but want a small, powerful and well built 12 vdc powered amp, this could be the ticket. Toping TP30 from Parts Express

Hi all, Might have a gig coming up that requires me to Looking into upgrading my recorder frm a Zoom to something better.. While the Nomad would be my ideal choice, I'm still not confident in being able to make back the investments I'll have to make for it. So i'm looking into the Used sections, & saw a Fostex FR2 and PD204. Both are 2 track machines, which are juz what my normal daily 5D job usually requests for.. The PD204 is good becaue it is a mixer/recorder, which means I can jus stash my wireless set and boom into it and ready for work, only problem i'm worried is its workflow... Is DVD-RAM still available in the market? or preferbly, Can the 204 do files c…

I just noticed that I get a hunk of low level RF when I turn on my 788T in block 21. Anyone else had this problem? I thought Sound Devices had rectified this in their design of the 788. I know the 744 had issues. I'm using the SSD version of the 788. Matt

Hello all. New user here, first post. I'm very much looking forward to becoming a contributing member of JWsoundgroup. Before I begin, I'd like to say that I'm aware you all don't like re-posts, so please know that I did in fact search this site for the update I'm listing and wasn't able to find any information on it. I apologize if my search queries missed a previous post on this topic. I wanted to start by posting a piece of information for Sound Devices 552 users. In short, they've released a firmware update for the 552 (Version 1.4, released Nov. 3, 2011) which is available here. That's the gist of it. The long version is that I had a month-long issu…

i know I read about this before, but can't find it now. yes, I did a search and even waded through countless pages of nomad threads. no, I didn't HAT since I'm rolling all day and would like to spend my short lunch eating. LOL is there a way (other than routing an output back into the returns with a cable) to record a L/R mix internally yet? am I missing something or is that a planned feature? I would like to be able to change the pan on the fly and have that reflected in the recording. I'm running 2.81.

What is the proper antenna length for Zaxcom block 21 and 26 transmitters and receivers? The manual says 4.48" (for block 21) but I received a Sam Woo Electronics cutting chart with some Zaxcom antennas that have very different guidelines. Also, the Sam Woo guide has very different lengths for transmitter vs receiver lengths. I would normally go off the manual, of course, but I was told by someone at Zaxcom that the Sam Woo chart is slightly more accurate. However, the two charts I have show nearly half an inch difference at each frequency. For example, one chart shows 600mhz should be 4.5" while the other chart shows 5". Could someone who actually knows the proper…

I'm looking to solder a bunch of my own cables and I'm wondering where the best place to buy the cables and connectors would be online. Looking to make: XLR m-f XLRm/f - 1/8 inch XLRm/f - TA3f/m Timecode cable for Sound Devices (Jam cable to Denecke Slates) also, BNC cables

I just finished my first gig with my new Nomad and was wondering how do you bill/invoice for it? I've seen some talk about varying the amount depending on how many features or recorded channels are used. Looking at average gear rates: 744t $100/day 788t $150/day 788t w/ CL8 $175-200/day Deva/Fusion $200/day I'm thinking $150-175 for up to 4 tracks recording/mixing, $200 for up to 8 tracks recording/mixing. Thought and opinions welcome, Mark O.

I was hoping to run my Fusion at 96kHz for some ambience recording. I've spoken to Glenn about this a while ago (about running the machine at 192kHz), but I'm stumped - the machine is totally unresponsive. I've: Removed all output routing Removed all input delays Turned off all fader assignments Only assigned the input mix I need (3 inputs) Inserted freshly formatted primary and mirror cards (133x) Turned off all Mix 12 support and Zaxnet functions Tried with no mirroring and normal mirroring modes and the machine still lags and barely records or stops. Can anyone shed some light? Another call will be made to Zaxcom on Monday, but am ho…

To start off, yes, Senator, i have searched, and yes, Senator, i have read all threads with relevant information. Please keep your hat on in this thread. I've been given a quite good offer for 2 used Micron wireless kits consisting of an SDR116 transmitter, and a TX716 receiver pr. kit. The kit includes all relevant acessories like Li-Ion 9V batteries, power cables, and the Katamount microphones (which i will replace with COS-11s), and looks to be in good shape. For the price of the Micron kit, i can purchase two Sennheiser 112p G3 sets brand new - so now i am wondering what would be the smartest move. I'm very strongly leaning towards the Micron kit for se…
