Hello, I replaced my internal factory-hdd with a Samsung 470 SSD.. Drive test results show a speed of 22.3 mb/s, which seems kinda low to me.. What typical speed could one expect in a 788t from a SSD which is capable of very high read/write speeds (200mb/s)... thankyou, Diego

I thought it might be nice to see a separate thread free of 8 pages of conjecture... I must say the Nomad looks interesting and the price point/s attractive. As well as it's upgrade-ability. My initial thoughts: 1) It would very tempting to me to buy one if the Nomad and my 788t were able to link together. 2) I wish the AA backup batteries were of some sort of rechargeable battery like the 788t that recharges when external power is connected 3) I can't wait to hear from NAB folks from BOTH camps (SoundDevices Users / Zaxcom Users) about the new device. 4) I wonder if Sound Devices will lower it's price on the 788t to be more competitive. Below is a…

Hi All Is there the option to have SMV's to power up when the Mic is plugged in, we are having to give costume Dept the Tx's and Mic's each night for the following morning, I have been used to Audio Ltd's which function that way, what I am trying to avoid is the fuss associated with pressing the 2 buttons deep within a period costume. I know there is the sleep function but 11ish hours would probably be a bridge too far. Regards Brian

Hello looking for advice on a digital Hybrid. I have the telos hx-1 http://telos-systems.com/hx/index.html in my sites about $750.00. The use would be for live studio webcasts, with remote call ins. Call ins are interactive with studio participants, Studio participants hear the call through a small pa. All I need is one phone line, call routing is done via a voice conference service. I have done this scenario many times but the phone hybrid is often provided to me by other vendors, figured it was time to add one to my arsenal. Even though Jk audio seems to be what I see many braodcast equipment seller stores carry, I rarely see Jk audio on any of th…

For those with real world - tho limited, I'm sure - experience with the Nomad: how realistic would it be to use the Nomad as an ENG 4 or 6 channel mixer to camera, in addition to recording ISO tracks internally? Could I eliminate my mixer from the bag and go with just a Nomad and wireless setup?

I own 5 Sanken COS-11 lav mics of various vintages and was wondering if anyone knows what ranges of serial numbers include the various versions: s, x, and d? It would be nice to know what version I'm really getting when buying used, or even new! I found no information about it on Sanken's web site. In case there is no clear answer, I'm going to share all but the last two digits of my serial numbers and encourage others to do the same. Perhaps we can reveal the break point in serial numbers for the different versions. 909XX - black COS-11s 940XX - black COS-11s 982XX - black COS-11s 1057XX - black COS-11x 1136XX - white COS-11d The only way I know what …

Hi, Im in need for a new cart. atm I have an open cart for my stuff, but thought on going the rack way. now, there are a lot of discussions here about rackmounted carts, but Im interested in euromodule racks. thought of buying an EMS 400,15u size, and was wondering how to get in touch with them. they dont seem to be responsive at all. and there is very few info on the internet about theirstuff and how to configure it the right way and due to my current location I can't go straight to their office or whatever... also could you recommend sliding shelfs and drawers for this racks (they do seem to have drawers but they look a bit small) Also I would like to k…

Today, while rolling (do we 'roll' without any moving parts?), I changed the filename (which I do on the order of ten times a day for the last 14 months) and all of a sudden, the screen started toggling back and forth from the 'rename' screen to the HDD screen. The display was still red as if the machine was still recording, but ALL of the six tracks in use went dead. At the end of the take (after throwing a flag on the play) I rebooted (the only way to get out of the locked red screen) and replayed the take, and sure enough, the take ended at the event. This has never happened to this unit before, nor have I ever heard of it happening. I intend to talk to Jesse at …

Hey Guys, I'm looking for the best way to do a headphone send from a 702, so the director can monitor as well. At the moment I'm thinking of taking a send from either the TA3 Master Out (using just L or R channel) or the Tape Out (not sure which would be better) to a Lectro LMa. This would then transmit to a Lectro R1a which the director would have his cans plugged into. Is this the best way to go about it? Would this even work? Do you have a better way I can do this? Any help is much appreciated! Cheers, Jo

To me it would seem better to originate your backup program source from the mixer rather than the primary recorder because it seems more likely that a failure/anomaly would occur in a recorder than in a mixer. Do you all agree? Also if your primary recorder is 12 track and you were doing a 4 track backup, how would you route/assign the tracks to the 4 track recorder? Thanks everyone for your opinions.

Hi just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the these two automixers. A comparison to the nomad would be sweet as well. I've only used the shure. I found it to be a bit slow on my last shot. I've been doing sound for a few livestream gigs (no reinforcement) and find these tools invaluable for giving a great feed. thanks

I'm recording now with the Nomad and when I press stop, I get a False Start page, which only gives me three options: mark , delete or cancel. When I press mark, the recording continues. When I press cancel, the recording continues. I'm afraid if I press delete, my files will be deleted. What do I do to stop the recording and safely save my files? As I'm currently recording (Sunday, 2:40pm ET), I don't know what do except turn the power off to stop the recording, and I'm afraid if I do that my files will definitely be lost. So, I would appreciate some immediate answers if possible, as I have about 8 hours until my card is full. Robbie Leppzer…

I have noticed that all my Lectro receivers have different firmware versions (displayed on start-up), is there a way to update them to the latest version? I have searched on Lectro's site, Google and here, but I cannot find any info on this. With that said, I'm guessing it is what it is and cannot be changed, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Hi I was planning to invest in some rechargeable batteries, probably the Powerex 2700 since people seem pretty happy with them. Just wondering if someone could give me some pointers to how long these kind of batteries usually last in a tx? Basicly how long runtime before I need to swap batteries? I know there are no certenties, but generly speaking. I'm using Varta-alkalines right now and I get 9-10 hours on those. Will 2700 NiHm last longer or shorter than those, or other high end AAs? Anyone got some experience to share?

Following on from the running a backup thread I was wondering how much redundant gear do people carry with them to swap out if needed? Back up recorder, spare mixer? How much redundancy is too much?

http://oktava.com/inc/sdetail/183/687 I have an Oktava 012 I will use primarily indoors (in addition/backup to a CS3e that has full blimp) but looking for cost effective windscreen to allow boom movement. I'm not sure if the standard foam pop screen will handle indoor boom movement. I came across the above and wonder if it's a wiser choice..potentially allowing some level of outdoor protection. I eventually would like to pick up a used baby ball gag/jammer but a new set is too much. Anyone have experience with a standard foam or the above? Thanks, Rich

I have a situation I am trying to solve with the equipment I have at hand but there seems to be a flaw somewhere: Two condenser mics (Oktava MK012) will be planted on a table. Phantom power is provided to them by a Denecke PS-2. Its out are connected via mic out cables to two Lectro LMas. Now the signal I receive (via a SRa) is extremely noisy. I thought it might be the mic out cables (XLRf to TA5f) but they work well when I plug a dynamic microphone onto them/the LMa (without the PS-2). So I connected the PS-2 outputs directly to my mixer and it sounded good, no noise like with the LMas. So the last part of the chain would be the LMas but they work flawlessly with…

I flew home today from a small regional airport. At check-in, our camera batteries (IDX Endura 10s) were refused for the cargo hold - they had to be carried on. So the 8 batteries were split amongst myself, the cameraman, and the director. We got through security just fine (though I was treated to my second random pat down this year. I was tempted to tip the guy $5, but I've heard humour doesn't go over well with them), and we walked on the tarmac towards our plane, a DASH-8, with overhead luggage space good for coats, but too small for most carry-on. We dropped our bags (containing the 8 batteries) on the skycheck cart, and got on board. For those who don't know, sky…

Hi all, First post on the board. I am currently struggling with my two sets of G3 transmitter/receivers in terms of range. I find that I am getting only approximately 15-20 feet of range from the talent before experiencing major static noise and rips. I am getting this around corners at an even shorter distance. One of my Tx/Rx sets is brand new, another set about one year old. One set is on the 566-608 range, one is 516-558, both experience the same problem to different degrees. I asked Sennheiser, and both ranges are acceptable for where I am shooting in India, they said I should be getting 50 meters where I am. I really don't think it is geograph…

One of the Red Camera regulars recently posted a message about a Zacuto (DSLR camera accessory manufacturer) website columnist who wrote a piece that essentially says: "don't bother using expensive wireless microphones. Instead, get a cheap solid-state recorder like a Roland or Zoom recorder, put it on the actor, wire them up with a lav, roll the recorder, and let it go." Here's a sample: "The disadvantage of wireless is a huge deal to filmmakers. You have no control over possible interference, dropouts, and most wireless systems only carry the signal. They do not actually record it. The signal to noise ratio is noisier than a wired signal because the transmitte…

Hi, I'm doing one of those shows that has a free-style clapper loader that changes slates at the speed of light. I find that I change the slate number on the primary card and it doesn't change on the mirror card. I guess that if I change the mirror mode to normal in stead of continuous (which I prefer) it would write the file after the renaming, therefore with the corrected slate number. Is there another way to rename the files in the mirror card other than that? Why does not mirror the changes made on the primary card as is a "continuous". The assistant editor is calling me too many times and is not good! Thanks, Manel
