I have a slate mic on my mixer.. but a few weeks ago I got a comment from the editor about the, shall we say, 'harshness' of my voice going on the tracks.. So, it got me thinking.. I could just rig up another 'better' slate mic up top of my cart and plug that into another channel on my mixer. So, a small wired lav mic? Recommendations? Cheap? Thanks -Richard

Some thoughts on another board would seem to suggest that the Tascam HD-P2 cannot handle a tre Line level input (even though it's supposed to). Any comments from the knowledgeable people here? Thanks.

I'm putting together a little expeditionary travel pack. I'm limited to 2 pieces of luggage. The case is nearly 40 pounds unloaded, so not exactly that useful in keeping the under 50 pound baggage limited (without extra fee), but will probably hand carry the expensive stuff with me anyways, so will be dummy loaded with some medical supplies and other light weight / low density odds and ends for the actual flight. http://pelican.com/0450/ I've arranged the foam so that antennas can be kept on the device, just grab and go. I figure it is less chance of things getting lost, quicker setup / wraps, and less wear and tear on the connections themselves. This sh…

Well, this topic is somewhat inspired by the future of mixers thread. But my thoughts are somewhat beyond, so I'd decided to start a new thread that might inspire the industry and DIY people out there and expresses my regular.... "dreams". 1. My first and biggest concern is, why do we need this hawker's tray pregnancy straining our backs? The input mixing and recording parts along with batteries could well fit in a backpack, with only a remote unit handheld or even boom mounted. The last could be either some serial copperwires or bluetooth/wifi connecion. The drawback might be some sort of latency to fight against, but at least, our backs are physically drawn …

Hi all, I have an ambient boom that has served me very well over the past few years, and is ready for some proper maintenance. Hoping for some advice as to what is the best type of grease or lube to use for maintaining a boom. What are people using?? Thanks!!

I'm experiencing audio dropping out when talent is using certain air tools (grinders, cutters etc.) The RF signal remains intact, only audio cuts off. I'm experiencing this on COS-11 going into Lectro SMV, SM, and B6 lavs into MM400B. I'm using a VRfield on the receiving end. Anyone has any ideas?

Here is another sort of cool cheap digital mixer / recorder. It does support some sort of MIDI MTC timecode, but looks like it only supports "Music 30" which I'm guessing is appropriate for 44.1k music projects. I could see using this as a backup recorder and for sending scratch track and IFB audio feeds. It looks like the smart channel strip controls are intelligently laid out and proof that one doesn't need to resort to iPad interfaces to achieve basic digital mixer functionality. It also has some interesting playback abilities, with marker / locate functionality, MTC master, and simple CD playback for wrap music.

AES42 users, What boom pole cable do you use? Would regular 12ft Loon Boom be short enough for trouble free AES42 operation. Or do I need 110ohm AES cable? If so where can I find coiled AES cable? Thanks

An ongoing topic over the winter, as I proceed toward downsizing the main cart. Drill down (ahem) into some detail in the video relative to accessorizing and punching holes in the shelves, including putting some handles on the nose end for going up stairs, and a small nose-end shelf as a phone charging station. Got an iPhone charging cable, but hope to get donations of Blackberry and a couple other phone charging cables (got any extras laying around?) to plug in to the external AC option I opted for: The AD255 and clip board fit just right: Um-hm. Tomorrow, the re-wire with advices from John Garrett in mind (thanks for the consult, Jo…

I just got 2 sanken COS-11's from Gotham Sound. I also picked up some Hush Lavs as well. I've seen them used many times before, however, when I tried to mount one for the first time yesterday, it didn't seem to effect the clothing noise at all. I wanted to find out what the best way to mount the hush lavs would be. I'm using topstick and moleskin.

Sorry I am a Lectro novice here in the UK. Could someone explain why the 200b/c transmitter models are not compatible with the new SR receivers? I know the new generation are digital hybrid but they have various compatibility modes? I assume it is compounder related but have been unable to find a definitive answer. Cheers

hi all, i had this weird issue with my 788t yesterday and today. during recording an error message comes up saying "take deleted" from both the CF and the hard drive. thankfully, the dvd ram burner is still working and recording properly. Another message comes up saying something like "hardware drive warning" i assume I'm sending this back to SD..anyone have anything like this?

Talking with a producer about a doco shoot next summer that will be following an endurance cyclist during the course of a long distance race. Radio mics may not be an option because of the hours that the cyclist will be on the bike (over 12 at any one time), so I wouldn't get a chance to change batteries during the race. I'm thinking that something like an MKH70 may be a good option for micing as we will be based on support vehicles the majority of the time. I love the range of that mic and can see it coming in very handy in this situation. As I've never done sports work before, I'm wondering if I'm overlooking anything that a more seasoned sound person would spot im…

Any Cameo users know where I can find the pin configuration for the "Aux AES out" db-25 pin connector on the back of the Zaxcom Cameo mixer ? I assumed it was just a duplicate of the main AES out, but when I use the cable harness I had built for that output on the Aux output, it's not working. Theres also nothing in the Cameo user manual about the AUX AES output.

In my rig right now consisted of 744T recorder and a Mixpre 2 channels. I mostly record to one track and at most 2 tracks for outdoor interviews. Just got an offer to do a short doc film and the director want me to use all 4 tracks to capture ambiances. My question is should I upgrade to 442 mixer or just get another Mixpre and save some money? Yes I know about the battery change and such? thanks for your opinions

I think I know the answer to my own question, but I am looking for a little real-world confirmation. Does the SDI output on an XDCam (f800) carry all 4 channels of audio or just the 2 being monitored? I have scoured the manual and I can't seem to find the answer.

I have a couple of UCR 201s One is ver 2.0 and one is 4.0 The ver 2.0 I am seeing no setup screen on the menu or no exit screen. The unit works fine as far as changing freqs but seems to be missing pages in the menu. Is this because it is a earlier model or does it needs service ? ( I did buy the unit used ) I see posts from senator posting "did you try the secret master reset " Is there such a thing? If so could you please pm me with the secret or any other ideas on this unit Thanks so much Tom Maloney

About to shoot in northern Quebec with a Deva IV at very cold temperatures ranging from -10 celsius to -30 celsius (probably up to -40 with the wind chill). Wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Deva in extreme cold? How does the touchscreen fare?
