Hi, Trying to make up my mind on a mic that I want to buy.. Wondering how everybody feels about the directionality of the kmr82 compared to the 81. Need to buy a sharp mic for ext city busy environments. Not too concerned about the reach as much as about the off-axis rejection, that I need it to be independent from the frequency. Looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks! Libero

Looking for opinions on a great all around shotgun that would sort of be a step up from the 416.

Was testing out one of these the other day and noticed quite a difference when the mic was between 3-4ft away from the source. A few inches of distance had a rather drastic change in low end response and general volume (more so compared to other similar mics i've used), so I was wondering if this might seem about right from other owners/users of this mic? I was testing the mic through a Mix-Pre D, no cuts/filters on.

hi guys, what's the advantage of transferring a serial number to someone who's buying used equipment? i've noticed people doing this with sound devices gear. is it purely for proof of ownership if someone questions the gear you have? i bought a used 744 just over 2 years ago but never had this done. cheers, P.

I was filing in a friend of mine on a feature today and used his 788T , CL-8 setup. Went through some test runs yesterday night, before today's shoot and while I was trying shortcuts and routing options a message about the recorder connecting through USB and Firewire poped up without dialing anything in by my side and I was unable to access any of the recorder's menus or controls for some seconds. Didn't pay attention to it and after a couple of minutes the same message came on screen which also blocked me from any access to the recorder. Called up my friend and he told me that on the last couple of weeks the same thing happened to him after upgrading to the latest fi…

Got the board changed in my TRX900AA recently and now, using it with a brand new QRX100, I get that noise in the background. I used to use this Tx with an RX900 so maybe using it with the QRX is different ? I tried different settings but no success... what settings do you guys use in terms of dB levels on your Txes ? What's your "gain structure receipe" with recent TRX900s and QRXes ? Thanks Attached, the file: going (1) from noise of this combo to (2) another mic I got rigged with no noise, then back to (3) that setup which gives me trouble now... I know I know Senator, I'm sure every piece of gear here has been discussed ad nauseum at some point in other forums, but it might take me all day trying to piece it together. I'm putting together a basic eng/efp kit to get into Location sound (have done audio post for 15 years). This would probably be mostly corporate stuff, obviously I'll be limited with this package to what type of gigs I could apply to. I am working with a budget, so Lectros, Sanken blah blah blah are just not an option right now. Please peruse this package for me and give some honest feed back if you could. I'm working with someone at a sound equipment house on the quote and this package will run me …

I've had my QRX for a while now and it has been awesome. Just today I noticed that antenna A is getting strong RF signal yet antenna B is moderate to weak signal with it dropping out even very close to camera. Has anyone else noticed this? I tried switching freqs too. Same result. (null)

Again I seek your knowledge, since my searches have proven unfruitful. Will a um400 tx work with a ucr211 rx? I've got both sitting in front of me along side a um200c tx. The 200's work together, but the 400 appears to the 211 with no pilot tone, and no audio output. Blocks and frequencies are all checked. Any ideas?

Im sure this has been beaten into the ground, but my pre posting search yielded no results, so here goes: I am coming into a couple of Lectro um200C's and like a good boy, read through the manual. In it, it says they work with any Alkaline 9V battery. I have the good fortune to have obtained a *lot* of Lithium 9V's... So the question is: Will the lithium batteries work in the um200C tx or do I need to stick with Alkalines, and why? I assume that the manual pre dates the popular use of lithiums, but I don't want to be too assuming when I come to these types of conclusions, since power issues can become big problems for our equipment. Thank you for your input!

When having a look at different models of higher end radio mics, I put all their specs and (UK) cost into a table, thought it might be useful to some of you: http://rtsound.net/?p=94 let me know if something's missing or incorrect, or if I've missed anything (took a lot of fiddling around to get that table into wordpress)

Hey guys, Yes it's another first post from a member so feel compelled to say great forum :-) I've been sound recording short and low budget features for a while but wondered if anyone geeks out or advises practising with equipment to try and find either your setups limits or just practice helps make perfect. Let me know your thoughts, Cheers

Has anybody ever had experience with RF interference using a Sanken CS1e microphone? By RF (and I'm pretty sure I'm right) I mean a HF scratchy whiney signal that is around certain places. Will a 416 be RF immune?

Anyone here using the Redbyte Decimator2? If so, question.... If I have nothing hooked to the input, but have a TV on the SD composite output, should I see anything? I just got it today, and was trying to test it out without a camera. Every other down convertor I have used would give a black/grey screen if I had the box powered up and was properly connected. That made it easy to figure out if my cart's monitor was seeing the down convertor or not. I also tried the HDMI output with no results. I also tried connecting to it with USB and a laptop. The control panel app lets you tweak the HDMI outputs (even adding text or showing audio level bars). I still just got blue scree…

I got a DPA 4081 stereo kit brand new - two mics, pair of XLR adapters in a box, and a pair of Microdot to TA5F adapters to use with Lectro Tx. Tried them with my Lectros (LM and UM400) today, and nada - nothing. It simply does not work. Secondly, i noticed a massive difference in levels as well as tone between what is supposedly a matched pair with consequent serial number mics. Wonder... -vin

Hey guys, recently picked up a 702. Just for doing some live music recording. Does anyone have any suggestions on live mics for this unit for live sound? I have messed with a couple of condensers and I get a ton of background noise. Maybe its the settings, maybe its the miss? just a little help with this unit would be appreciated. Thanks!

Being on the verge of spending money again, I want to make sure this is the right step before parting ways with my hard earned cash. I'm a sound mixer who is relatively new to the craft (about 9 months doing location audio) and I want to invest in some pro quality wireless. One of the things that I feel is most key to being a good sound person is to have pristine audio. Now pristine is a relative idea but getting as close as possible is a good approach when you don't have the clients or money to access the top quality Zaxcom's/Lectro systems. My question is about the sound quality of a Sennheiser G3 Wireless system wired to a Sanken COS11 lavaler vs. …

Only saw this now, anyone here had a listen? I want to know how it compares to the Sennheiser 8060. B&H price is 850 US. http://www.sekd.com/sanken/products/brochures/Sanken_CS-1e.pdf

Just curious to find out how these are working for people that use them. I think I would be using the TA5 to XLR adapter more than that slot system as far as hops go but would possibly like to incorporate into my bag. Seems to make logical sense to cut my receiver count in half as far as my back is concerned. Any info, tips or help anyone has on this is much appreciated. Mike

I am looking for body belts for concealing transmitters under costumes. I have made searches online but have not found anything specific for Film & Television. I realize I could have a seamstress make some up but I am not against purchasing something ready made for convenience sake. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

So I'm close to completing a new cart, and now that I've recently added an IFB100 and a TRX900AA w STA adapter, any suggestions on best places to locate these two items? In a bag with a Fusion, these two devices can cause a bit of havoc when located near my receivers. I've done some tests with a "pocket" made of some RF shielding fabric around the TRX900, and it does indeed help block RF spray. (What seems to work just as well is to power the 900 from a different battery and clip it on my shoulder instead of located in the bag) So, what I've been thinking of doing is putting both these items in a small plastic or wood box, lining the inside with the…
